At 45,423 it is the current record. It was Arsenal and Chelsea that played in the final of 2018, which Chelsea won 3-1.

This did not exceed the 1920 Dick Kerr Ladies Boxing Day record. Goodison Park saw 53,000 spectators as St Helens won 4-0.

Only Great Britain’s game against Brazil at the 2012 Olympics and England’s friendly with Germany in 2019 have surpassed that record in the UK.

Sunday’s game is the final for the 2020-2021 campaign, which had to be put back due to delays caused by Covid-19.

Arsenal have won the competition a record 14 times and their last triumph in the competition came against Chelsea in 2016, with Dan Carter (above) scoring the only goal of the game

His side beat Chelsea in pre-season before claiming a 3-2 victory on the opening day of the Women’s Super League campaign.

Blues are unbeaten since then and have scored 21 goals across all their games.
