Adut Akech, an Australian supermodel has suffered heartbreak after the death of Ajok Garang (seven-year-old) this week.
Ajok drowned in a neighbour’s backyard pool in Para Hills West, Adelaide, on Tuesday evening, leaving his family reeling.
Adut’s involvement in the tragedy was made clear on Thursday when the Los Angeles-based model uploaded an Instagram tribute to her “sweet, innocent baby cousin”

Posting to Instagram Stories, the South Sudan-born beauty shared a news article about Ajok’s family remembering him as a ‘lovely, affectionate and caring child’, while adding the caption: ‘My sweet innocent baby cousin. This was not your fault. It’s so unfortunate that this has happened to you.
“You were a newborn. Ajok: We miss and love you. [crying emoji, broken heart emojis]She said,
A Vogue covergirl posted another photo of Ajok, with the caption: “I wish that you wouldn’t leave me.” Your presence is essential. Your memory will never be forgotten. Love you my sweet boy Ajok [dove emoji, crying emoji, broken heart emojis]’.

Reeling: Posting to Instagram Stories on Thursday, LA-based Adut shared a news article about Ajok’s family remembering him as a ‘lovely, affectionate and caring child’, while adding the caption: ‘My sweet innocent baby cousin. This was not your fault. It was an awful thing that happened.

Adut also posted several updates regarding her mental state, saying that she was ‘not okay’ and that the last week had been’so mentally and emotionally draining.
After jumping over the fence on a Goodfield Rd property, Para Hills West in Adelaide early Tuesday morning, Ajok became unresponsive and was discovered in an adjoining pool.
Amuor Aliers (the boy’s mom) was at home cleaning up and taking care of her infant when Amuor heard the children calling her.

Childhood: Akech was raised in South Sudan, and she was born there. She moved to Australia at six years old with her mother and five siblings when they fled Sudanese persecution.
‘I could hear the boys playing but then I heard a neighbour say ‘your boy’s in the pool’, Ms Aliers told Adelaide Now.
It had been 20 minutes before she could gain access to the property of her neighbor to assist Ajok.
To revive their son, the parents of a grieving couple performed CPR while neighbors called.


Anguish: Adut also shared several updates on her mental health, revealing that she is ‘not ok’ and that the past week has ‘been so mentally and emotionally draining’
The boy tragically succumbed to his injuries despite the best efforts of paramedics.
‘I wish I had died before my son, I don’t want to bury my son before myself,’ Ms Aliers said.
Ajok was reported to have been in the water for around 20 minutes before alarm was raised.
