“They should have roped them off”: Ainsley Harriott says he is considering taking legal action to save his sister’s life from the water features at Chelsea Flower Show.

  • 65-year-old chef insists that the area should have been cordoned off and notes that the safety and health of the participants was not great. 
  • Onlookers have previously reported that Jacqueline, Ainsley’s sibling, tripped over and fell into the May feature.
  • After she had ‘coughed up quite a bit of water,’ paramedics helped her get to the hospital. The incident was also filmed by passersby. 
  • Ainsley was seen examining her alongside other guests as she lay next to Chelsea Hospital’s garden-pond feature.

Ainsley Harriott has revealed his family is considering legal action after he saved his sister from drowning when she fell into a water feature at the Chelsea Flower Show.

The chef, 65, insisted the area ‘should have been roped off’ and noted Health and Safety at the event ‘wasn’t particularly great.’

Onlookers have previously reported that Jacqueline fell in the show’s feature after her sibling Ainsley had tripped. Paramedics took Jacqueline to the hospital because she had ‘coughed up quite a bit of water’.

Ainsley stated, speaking to Richard Eden of The Daily Mail at the TRIC Awards Wednesday: “The Health and Safety were not very great.”

“They ought to have roped it!” [the show pond] off. It was about 6ft deep — quite a drop once you hit the water.’

RHS spokesperson says that they take safety and health very seriously. The garden was closed to the public for the rest of the event.

Ainsley confirmed that his sister was “doing fine” and was seen looking after her alongside other people as she laid on the ground beside the Chelsea Hospital’s garden pond. 

Ainsley’s sister and a former teacher, was the chef’s guest at VIP Launch. A large quantity of water was consumed by Ainsley and she had to be pulled from the narrow water features at RHS Bee Garden and Our Green Planet.

Jacqueline was taken from the water by paramedics. Ainsley tweeted later that Jacqueline was doing fine and was in good spirits.

“Just wanted to say a massive thank you for all the help my sister received when she fell at Chelsea Flower Show. She’s doing fine and all is well,’ the TV star tweeted.

MailOnline received a statement from a Chelsea Flower Show spokesperson saying that they are looking into an incident at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

“The medical team quickly treated the guest and we are happy to report that he is well.

According to one guest, The Sun was told by The Sun that the garden was crowded with people. One of them said: “I think she fell into the pond or tripped and ended up in water.” 

“I believe she almost drowned. Ainsley Harriott, and other stars pulled her out before they placed her on the floor. 

“She had been drinking lots of water.”
