Alan Carr’s spouse has admitted to a charge of drink driving and was warned that he could face jail. It was miraculous that no one was hurt when he drove four times the legal limit.

Paul Drayton, 50, was accused of drink-driving after he reversed into a police car, narrowly missing a mother pushing a pram, while in his Mitsubishi 4×4 in West Sussex last month, just three miles from the £2.7 million home he shares with Alan, 45.

He initially denied the charges but he admitted guilt at Brighton Magistrates Court today. For sentencing purposes, the case was adjourned.

Drayton was arrested for driving under the influence of 153mcg alcohol per 100ml. This is well above the legal limit of 35mcg. However, he originally claimed that the breathalyzer was malfunctioning.

Drayton received this statement from Amanda Kelly, District Judge. It stated that a 12-week sentence is the starting point of this offence. This was for somebody who had less alcohol than him and didn’t drive a police vehicle.

“I will get a presentence report, but you are most likely to end up going to jail.”

“You are putting the public at risk by driving in this state. It’s a miracle that you haven’t killed or injured another person.

You are disqualified now from driving starting today. Although you should not be dishonest or secretive about probation, custody is possible.

The Sun reports that he was granted unconditional bail to await sentencing.

Melanie Wotton from the CPS told the court the Crown will also seek £150 in costs. It was also pointed out that “this wasn’t an early plea”.

After being alerted about a possible drink-driver on October 9, she said that police saw the vehicle and spotted it.

The swerving was apparent as the team followed it, before they were able to put an end to it.

However, she then said: ‘The Mitsubishi then reverses into the police motor vehicle. Evidently, the driver has been drinking.

“He had difficulty standing and was not able to coordinate his movements. He was arrested. He was then taken into custody and he inhaled 153 breaths.
