Alec Baldwin, 64, is hoping for a career bounce back in the wake of the fatal Rust shooting and will head to Broadway next spring.

The embattled star is set to take to the stage in a new adaptation of the play Art, alongside Tony Shalhoub and John Leguizamo, the New York Post reported on Tuesday.

Baldwin admitted in the past that he had difficulty finding work after the Rust tragedy, which claimed Halyna Houtchins’ life last fall. The police are currently investigating the death.

Comeback? Alec Baldwin (64) hopes to make a comeback after his tragic Rust shooting.

According to the Post, the revival of Art is set for opening sometime this spring. It was originally a comedy-art-world play that took place in Paris.

Matthew Warchus returns as the director after directing the original Tony award winning production in 1998.

Baldwin recently spoke out to CNN about his struggle finding work after the Rust shooting.

He said that he was fired yesterday from another job. ‘There I was all set to go to a movie, jump on a plane … I’ve been talking with these guys for months and they told me yesterday we don’t want to do the film with you because of this.’

Baldwin shot two Christmas movies in Italy before making the commitment to Art. In March, Baldwin touched down in Rome to shoot Kid Santa and Billie’s Magic World, according to Variety.

Alec, his brother and star in both the movies are producing this pair of holiday films. These projects were already in motion by the Baldwins before Rust filming.

Francesco Cinquemani (Italian director) has directed Billie’s Magic World as well as Kid Santa. Cinquemani previously worked alongside Alec on 2015’s Andron. The film The Christmas Witch (1921), which featured Alec Baldwin’s younger brother William, was also directed by him.

The two films are being billed as ‘live-action/animation family Christmas comedies’, according to Variety.

Baldwin admitted that he's had a very hard time finding and keeping work since the Rust shooting: 'I got fired from another job yesterday.'

Baldwin said that he has had difficulty finding work and maintaining it since the Rust shooting. “I was fired from another job yesterday.”

Meanwhile, Alec is currently at the center of an investigation surrounding the death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who passed away after a prop gun that Baldwin was holding for a scene accidentally discharged.

Baldwin’s wife Hilaria Baldwin has stood by him since the tragedy last fall, often using her Instagram page to pen supportive messages to the star and to combat his critics.

Earlier this week, Hilaria uploaded a photo of the pair’s hands interlocked and included a heartfelt caption that encouraged her husband’s vulnerability.

The 38-year old yoga teacher wrote, “I’m not going anywhere,” “Take every moment to feel sad. I’m here.

Baldwin had just spoken out about the incident in a CNN interview.

Baldwin made it clear that he didn’t feel he, or anyone else who worked on set, would be charged for the shooting that took the life of the cinematographer.

Speaking about the ordeal, Baldwin said: ‘That private investigator, as you probably know, did not have a difficult time accessing the staff of the sheriff’s department, and that person told us – quote, unquote – we’ve known in the department since January that Alec would not be charged with a crime.’

He continued, ‘I’m pretty confident neither one of them should ever work on a film set again. I sincerely believe … [investigators] are going to say that this was an accident. It’s tragic.’

Baldwin’s attorney added that ‘it would be a huge miscarriage of justice’ if he were charged following the deadly shooting.

Despite Baldwin’s own certainty, a recent report from the Federal Bureau of Investigation made the question of charges a bit more murky.

The report that said the gun could not have possibly gone off without Baldwin deliberately firing it.

This means that he may still be facing criminal charges in connection to this incident. Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the case would be transferred to the District Attorney.

Baldwin said the whole experience has taken ‘years off my life,’ and he carries the weight of Halyna’s death with him.

In the interview, he stated that a person died but it could have been prevented. It was totally unnecessary. This is what I try to think every day.

Hannah Gutierrez Reed, a Rust Armorer, recently stated in a statement to DailyMail.com exclusively that the FBI still has not yet tested live rounds which killed Hutchins and taken fingerprints of the set to establish how it ended up.

She stated, “The main question in this instance from the beginning was: Where did those live rounds ending upon the Rust sets come from?”

“The Sheriff’s office refused to request DNA testing from the FBI and made the conscious decision to not pursue the question.

“We know now that there was live round on the set.” It’s impossible that the Sheriff wouldn’t seek out answers to this basic question. This raises serious concerns about the investigation. This is the answer we have been seeking for a long time and we will continue to pursue it.

The former 30 Rock star continues to blame Reed, ammunition supplier Seth Kenney, and assistant director Dave Halls for the shooting, arguing – and emphasizing in an Instagram post –  that he cocked the gun and pulled back its hammer but did not pull the trigger.

Lisa Torraco (the attorney representing Halls) says Baldwin wants to shift responsibility: “Baldwin is pointing fingers at others because evidence is pointing towards him. Halls isn’t responsible. Everybody needs to stop.

“People only point fingers at Halls to avoid taking responsibility. Halls can be used as a scapegoat. It is important to examine the evidence.
