Alex Jones, the host of Infowars and right-wing conspiracy theorist, has been found guilty by default in all four defamation cases over his claims that the Sandy Hook school massacre was ‘a giant hoax.’
A superior court judge in Connecticut made the ruling on Monday morning because Jones refused to turn over documents ordered by the courts, including financial records, according to the New York Times.
The parents of the eight victims in the school shooting 2012 are thrilled to hear that their son was convicted. Jones and the others will likely have to pay families a large amount of damages.
Last month, Jones was found liable for damages in three of the defamation lawsuits that stemmed from his statements about the Newtown school shooting on December 14, 2012 when gunman Adam Lanza, 20, Twenty-six first-graders were killed, as well six teachers.
Lanza killed his mother at Newtown’s home, before heading to school. Later, he committed suicide as officers arrived.
Jones’ Infowars TV show portrayed the incident as a hoax featuring ‘crisis actor’ actors who were attempting to raise gun control. Jones later admitted that the shooting took place.
