Liberal media leaders, politicians and celebrities were outraged by the jury’s decision not to indict Kyle Rittenhouse on all charges connected to August 2020 killings of three Kenosha men.
Rachel Zegler, actress and activist was leading the charge. She tweeted that ‘kylerittenhouse being cleared of all charges following such heinous and heinous crime is the epitome white privilege. This is exactly what is wrong in this Godforsaken nation.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, a leader of Progressive “Squad”, claimed that the verdict by the jury is an indictment against the U.S. judiciary system.
“What we’re witnessing is the system functioning as intended and protecting those who it was meant for,” she wrote to her almost 13 million followers on Twitter.
Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber are both victims. They ought to be alive today,” Bill de Blasio, the deeply unpopular and uber-liberal New York City mayor, said on Twitter.
‘The only reason they’re not is because a violent, dangerous man chose to take a gun across state lines and start shooting people. This is an understatement to call it a miscarriage in justice,’ he said, repeating the false claim anyone who has even a passing knowledge of the case would have known.
Rittenhouse was not able to cross state boundaries with a firearm. This falsehood has been refuted in Illinois by county officials who examined the claims and the testimony of the judges.
De Blasio tried to make excuses for his ignorance by posting: “Far-right trolls that think it doesn’t matter if a violent shooter got his gun before or after crossing state lines are missing what the point is: Two people are killed, and their murderer remains unknown.” That’s not justice and they know it.’
George Takei, Star Trek actor and activist said that denying justice is “a blow to our national consciousness.”
“On trial was not just a murderer, it is a system that kills.” Today, that system has once more defeated justice. Keep in mind these words: “We will not stop fighting to defend what is right, and just.”
It was not surprising that Takei contributed to the discussion, since he seems to have decided to speak out about Rittenhouse’s guilt early in his career.
Takei wrote in November 2020 that he wanted to be a citizen of a country in which Colin Kaepernick was seen as hero and Kyle Rittenhouse as terrorist. This tweet came almost a year prior to the trial.
LeVar Burton was an ex-star of “Reading Rainbow” and wrote, “Tell me again that there is not two kinds of justice in America!”
‘This country is broken’, tweeted Eddie Glaude, MSNBC regular and the chair of the Department of African American Studies at Princeton University.
‘Nobody is surprised, but that doesn’t mean outrage isn’t appropriate,’ offered former ESPN columnist and writer for the The Atlantic, Jemele Hill.
Bruce Schroeder (Kenosha Circuit Judge) was also the object of criticism.
Joy Reid, MSNBC, tweeted that “In the Rittenhouse Case, the thirteenth juror was judge,”
Bette Midler (singer and actress) appeared to critique the jury.
#kylerittenhouse was found innocent, even though we SAW HIM kill 2! Fundamentally stupid, I believe he will continue to pursue a career on #Fox or in the #RadicalRightWing circle, which is a positive for them. It is a tragic and tragic day for all decent, moral, thinking, feeling, ethical people.
The American Civil Liberties Union portrayed the teens as a victim of their horror at the verdict and hurled accusations against her.
‘When the community rose up to exercise their First Amendment right to protest after the police shot a Black man in the back — in front of his children, police enabled white supremacist militia members. According to the ACLU, this failed attempt resulted in bloodshed, loss of life, and trauma.
Important to remember is that Rittenhouse’s prosecution did not end their case with the expression “white supremacist”.
