Tina Daheley from BBC News published a Twitter letter to an unnamed restaurant Wednesday, in the hope that the restaurant will take appropriate action following a colleague who used a racial slur repeatedly in her presence.

Tina, 40 years old, shared her two-page letter through social media. In a tweet, Tina explained that she finally decided to contact the restaurant to which this incident occurred. This moment has been relived many times in my mind, and I wish I had done things differently.

When discussing Azeem Rafiq’s testimony regarding the racism that he had experienced in cricket, the journalist explained to him that a “white middle-aged male” used an offensively racist word beginning with P.

Tina stated that Tina had used the knife not once but several times throughout the meal, even though Tina, his wife, insisted that he stop using it, considering how stunned we were.

Also, she admitted that she had considered confronting them but couldn’t bear to do so. She added: “Perhaps he did it to provoke us.” [or]Perhaps he felt annoyed by the fact that he was seated next to two people of color.

Tina wrote: [name blanked out]After a very distressing event that occurred in, I am writing you. [restaurant name blanked out]Friday evening, November 5.

We had made dinner reservations for 2 at 7 PM. When we got there, there was already a table with four other people. Two middle-aged, white-skinned couples were the ones who identified them.

Tina tweeted: 'Finally decided to write to the restaurant where this happened. 'I've relived this moment many times over in my head wishing I'd handled things differently and confronted them but I was too upset (and sleep-deprived) at the time and knew I'd burst into tears if I did!'

Tina sent this tweet: ‘Finally decided that I would write to the restaurant, where this occurred. “I have relived the moment numerous times in my head, wishing that I had handled them differently and confronted their actions but at the time I was too upset and sleep-deprived and I knew I would burst into tears.

Page 2: In the second paragraph, it was stated that he justification for the usage of the term. While everyone has the right to express their opinions, hateful and racist language is not acceptable.

“The man standing directly in front of me, facing the windows, repeatedly used an offensively racist term that began with the letter P.

“They discussed a topic that was dominating news at the moment – racism in England cricket, and Azeem Rafiq’s consistent abuse.

Tina wrote that Tina was justification for the word. While everyone has the right to express their opinion, hateful and racist language is not acceptable.

“He used it repeatedly during their meal, not once but several times, even though his wife insisted that he stop after being so shocked by us.”

Tina stated that she considered confronting them but could not bring herself to. He might have done it in order to prod me (I am a BBC News presenter). Or perhaps he felt annoyed at the fact that he was seated next to two black women. Perhaps he wasn’t thinking about us.

“After thinking it for weeks and feeling helpless about it, it’s finally time to bring it up to you in the hopes that it will inspire you to take some action.

Tina said, “I do not believe this behavior should be unchallenged.” There is nowhere for this behavior in 2021.

The tweet that she sent was accompanied by the following: “Finally, decided to write to this restaurant.

“I have relived that moment numerous times in my mind, wishing I had handled them differently. But I was too upset and sleep-deprived at the time. I knew I would burst into tears.

Tina received a flood of messages from support. One Twitter user wrote: “Well done, regardless of how long it took to speak up.

A second added: “I’m sorry for this Tina. All people have the right to speak out on the pressing issues. However, it’s not appropriate for such language.

Another person tweeted, “I am so sorry this happened to me.” This is unacceptable for any society. You chose to be sensible in the end. A fourth person agreed, saying: “You were right here.” It was a good idea to take your time before you tell the restaurant.

Tearful: Azeem wiped away tears when he spoke to MPs about the racism he suffered and has today apologised for using anti-Semitic slurs in a series of messages to a fellow cricketer on Facebook a decade ago

Tearful. Azeem wept when he talked to MPs regarding the racism that he experienced. Today, he has apologised to Azeem for using anti-Semitic slurs on Facebook in a series message to a fellow Cricketer a decade back

The fifth said that the right to raise it is yours and that there are no limitations on its use.

Azeem was a former Yorkshire cricketer and spoke to MPs last month about the ‘inhumane’ treatment that he received at his club.

Rafiq broke down during shocking testimony as he claimed racial discrimination against Tim Bresnan Matthew Hoggard Alex Hales Gary Ballance, David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd and Tim Bresnan.

The spin bowler turned racism whistleblower also claimed the word P*** was ‘used constantly’ during his time at Yorkshire CCC as he gave explosive testimony to MPs.

One shocking fact he shared was that he had red wine forced down his throat when he turned 15 years old. He is a practicing Muslim and said it as a horrifying story. This happened before 2012, which he says he did to “fit in”.

Rafiq said that he was told by Yorkshire officials, along with other Asian players, to sit near the toilets when he joined them. They were also called “elephant washers”.

Rafiq, who was tearing up as he spoke out about the cruel treatment that he and his coaches gave him after his miscarriage in 2017, was a part of the broad-ranging hearing.

He warned that “hundreds and even thousands” of cricketers might now make racist claims, alleging there will be an open floodgate for victims of abuse to fight back.
