President Joe Biden and his family arrived in South Carolina on Wednesday for a week-long vacation on Kiawah Island.
Biden was accompanied by Jill Biden as first lady. They then motorcaded to Joint Base Andrews, outside Washington, where they were joined by Hunter Biden’s son and daughter-in law Melissa Cohen, Beau Biden, and Beau Biden.
Baby Beau was dressed in a small suit and clung tightly to his grandfather as he waved at a military greeter as the president saluted him on the Air Force One stairs.
They were then flown from Charleston to a private house in a gated community.
Biden did not reply to requests for information about his vacation, activities and when he would return to Washington. According to a White House official, the president will be staying at the home of a friend on the island where his family used previously for visits.

This trip is planned after President Obama tested positive for COVID last weekend. He was finally freed from his isolation, and has reunited with his wife of nearly three weeks due to the infection.
Biden is now able to fly after being cleared by his doctor, although he still has a cough from post-COVID.
While the Bidens had visited the Kiawah before, including 4 times while he was vice president, but this is his first trip since becoming the White House.
Biden will be in South Carolina while the House votes to approve the bill. It includes Biden’s top priorities. The largest ever investment to combat climate change of any time, $369billion over a decade, is the vote. This measure would set a $2,000 maximum out-of-pocket prescription drug cost cap for Medicare beneficiaries and provide subsidies to 13 million Americans for their health insurance.
According to the White House, Biden’s signing date is not known. It was only a matter of ensuring that the House approves the measure.
Biden’s plans to vacation in 2021 were disrupted by Washington’s legislative calendar and a COVID-19-case surge.
Presidential summer vacations have been a tradition. George W. Bush spent much of August cleaning brush from the heat and 100 degrees that had risen to his ranch in central Texas. Barack Obama spent time on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, working on his golf skills. Donald Trump enjoyed time at his central New Jersey home and his private golf course.
Past statements by the White House have stressed the fact that the president cannot be truly removed from his duties. That he will still consult with his advisers daily and attend his national security briefings, regardless of where he is located.
Sometimes, the president has to take legacy-defining actions while they are on vacation. This includes Bush’s 2005 response to hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. In response to bombings at U.S. embassies, Kenya and Tanzania, Bill Clinton directed airstrikes from Martha’s Vineyard against al-Qaida terrorists.
Bush was also the father of President George H.W. Bush, his father, President George H.W., planned U.S. reaction to Saddam Hussein’s invasion in Kuwait in 1990. He did this from Kennebunkport Maine’s oceanfront property.

After testing negative for COVID, the president made his first trip to Mexico. He was finally able to get out of isolation after nearly three weeks away.


After being cleared by COVID, President Joe Biden waved before departing on a weeklong vacation to South Carolina.

While the White House is not revealing how long Bidens will stay on the private island, FAA flight restrictions are in effect through Tuesday. These restrictions are part of the standard operating procedure for presidents who visit an area.
Many private homes are located on the island. Nikki Haley, Olympic gold-medalist figure skater Tara Lipinski and NBA basketball player Ray Allen.
The House will vote this weekend on the Inflation Reduction Act, which was approved by the Senate while Biden is away.
After it was rejected by enough Democrats, the bill became the signature Democratic legislative package.
Biden is a supporter of the Inflation Reduction Act. It provides funds for programs related to health and climate.

Marine One flew them to Charleston Executive Airport. Then they rode a motorcade back to their South Carolina home.

Biden had already signed the PACT Act in law before departing on vacation. This legislation provides healthcare to military vets who have been exposed to toxic burn pits. Biden previously stated that he believed Beau’s death from cancer in 2015 was due to Beau’s burn pit exposure during military service in Iraq.
The president often travels to Delaware, whether he is at home in Wilmington or on vacation. Each of these homes was where he spent part of last August.
The Bidens, however, are not strangers to Kiawah.
Biden, in his role as vice president, had previously been to the island in 2009 and 2013, 2014, and 2015.
The last time President Biden was in South Carolina, it was December 2012 when he addressed the graduation of South Carolina State University at his friend and colleague Rep. Jim Clyburn.
Kiawah, an island of 15 miles square feet, has an oceanfront golf resort and is 25 miles from Charleston. This is a top-ranked golf destination on the East Coast.
The PGA’s May 2021 Championship was held at The Ocean Course, Kiawah Island.
Biden loves to golf, but he is more interested in the Wilmington Country Club.
In his first 18 months in office, Biden played 15 rounds of golf, according to former CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller, who tracks presidential data.
