Brian May launched an attack on The BRIT Awards’ decision to eliminate male and female categories in its 2022 event, “Woke”, with a passion.
The singer, who is now 74 years old, stated that the album was created ‘without a lot thought’. He believes Queen, which would have been a brand new group, wouldn’t be diverse enough.
Brian has received four BRIT Awards with the group and slammed organizers for taking decisions out of fear. He believes the long-term effects of gender neutral gongs are likely to be disastrous.

Brian May: “Decisions made out of fear” Brian May launched an attack on the controversial BRIT Awards decision to remove male and female categories from its 2022 event.
Brian spoke out in an interview on Tuesday with The Sun. He said that he was uncomfortable about certain decisions being made. This is often because of fear of people being called out. This is an awful atmosphere.
“I’m sick of people trying change things without taking into consideration the long-term effects. While some things may be improvements, others are still not. Some are depriving people.
Brian stated that Queen isn’t diverse enough to be successful in today’s market, regardless if they have the talent.

Music legends
They have sold over 90,000,000 albums. The group was led by Freddie Mercury, who embraced and celebrated his sexuality.
Parsi, a western Indian community, was the parent of the singer.
Brian stated: “I’m sure Queen would start now, and we would have people of various colours and different genders as well as a transgender population.” [person], but life doesn’t have to be like that. You can still be different.
He said that nobody was concerned about Freddie not being white when they formed the band because he was their friend, brother, and a musician.

Unimpressed. Brian stated that it was frightening to think about how the woke culture might have made the band consider Freddie being ‘right color or right sex’ if they were formed today (pictured 1986).
Brian stated that it was frightening to think how the “woke” culture might have made them consider if Brian was the first person in the group to decide if Queen was the right colour or right sexuality.
Some are outraged at the move to gender neutral gongs, and some have voiced their disapproval.
Bosses said the decision was made to be as inclusive as possible and relevant as possible. It allowed anyone who does not identify with a woman or man to get in.
However, fans called the new change ‘woke drivel’ and demanded a boycott for next year’s concert.

All change: The Brit Awards have scrapped male and female categories ahead of their ‘woke’ 2022 ceremony in order to ‘celebrate artists solely for their music and work’
Brit Awards 2022 will have contestants competing for Artist of the Year, instead of Male Solo Artist and Female Solo Artist.
Best international artist of the year will be used in replace of best international female, or male solo artist.
Four new awards will be presented at the 2022 ceremony. They will include alternative/rock, hip-hop/grime/rap acts; dance acts and pop/R&B acts.
The Song of the Year Prize will now recognize featured artists as well, and not only the leading artists or the named collaborators.
These changes are due to Sam Smith, a singer who is non-binary, putting pressure on organizers earlier in the year to eliminate male and female categories.
Three-time winner: “Music has always been about unity not division.
“I am looking forward to an era when the awards show can reflect the society in which we live.”
Event planners were quick to dismiss this because they feared it would be a ‘counterproductive to diversity or equality’.
But in a huge volte-face today, Brit chair Tom March announced the dumping of the long-established category names.
He said: ‘It is important that The Brits continue to evolve and aim to be as inclusive as possible.
It feels right to acknowledge the efforts of artists, regardless of their gender, for creating music and doing the work they do.

Popstar: Sam Smith won the 2014 critics’ choice award and identified as non-binary using pronouns they/them. He has also called for this move before (Pictured at 2020).
March added: ‘I’m really excited to launch four new genre awards, which create even more opportunities for artists to be acknowledged for the brilliant music they create and produce, and give music fans the chance to get involved and vote to support their artists and help them to win a Brit.
“The 2022 show looks great, Mo will be an outstanding host. I’m thankful that he and Clara were able to participate in this year’s Brits.
Fans and commentators weren’t happy with the change, calling it ‘woke drivel.
Malcolm Clark, a TV producer and trustee of LGB Alliance, a charity that advocates for lesbians, bisexuals and gay men to define themselves as same-sex attracted told MailOnline: ‘While we’ve always loved a bit of gender bending, it’s silly to deny that the different categories reflected the fact women and men often have experiences that are as distinct as their voices.
“We see often that sex is being erased from organisations which claim it doesn’t harm the LGBT community.
“Of course! The best way to know is to ask us if we would like to eliminate separate sex groups.

“Unfortunately, it does not seem that there was a public consultation on whether LGB people or straight want this.
Christina Jordan, former MEP: “So long Brit Awards. It was nice to get to know you. Best of luck.
A second person tweeted: “Brit Awards scrap male/female categories ….. more woke drivel.
Dale Hammond from Guernsey said that he would be watching the Brit Awards and scrapping.
A woman called the move ‘woken, bilgewater’ and claimed that the awards weren’t for her.
One person said it online, “Usely like watching the Brit Awards. I certain won’t be viewing them now.”
On social media, a man said: “The Brit awards clearly want their lowest rating for this year.”

Will Young, a singer who supported the changes, stated that it was’really hard to have only one category since less people would win’.
He told The Independent’s Millennial Love podcast: ‘I only know of a couple of artists who identify as non-binary in the UK who would be up for Brit awards. Is it possible to move something around for as much as $0?
Brits is an association of approximately 1,200 experts in music, including musicians, labels, promoters and publishers.
