A 74-year-old British man smothers his wife in Cyprus to death, after her diagnosis with leukaemia.

  • David Hunter (74), allegedly murdered his wife in order to spare her leukaemia.

  • They were married for 52-years and moved to Cyprus when David quit his job in the mines.

An Englishman living in Cyprus, allegedly murdered his wife for 52 years. He then tried to kill himself because he did not want her to get cancer.

David Hunter (74), allegedly murdered Janice Hunter (75) – Janice had been previously diagnosed with incurable Leukaemia. He did so at their Tremithousa home, near Paphos. 

The Cyprus Mail reports that David then attempted to end his life, but was arrested at Paphos General hospital.

David Hunter (74), allegedly murdered Janice (75), who was previously diagnosed with incurable Leukaemia. He did so at his home in Tremithousa near Paphos by covering her nose and mouth.

Local reports claim that David also confessed and claimed to have killed his wife because he wanted him to be peacefully dead after her terminal diagnosis.

Interpol alerted the police about the incident on December 18, at 8:15pm. David, allegedly had sent his family members a text message telling them what he’d done.

An investigation into the crime is underway. 

A police spokeswoman, Marina Christodoulides, said the investigation is seeking to determine whether Janice’s death was premeditated.

Briton, 74, will now be held in Paphos General Hospital for seven days due to this.

According to the SunOnline, an aunt told police that the victim was killed in a’mercy-killing’ incident. However, they expressed shock. 

David was a miner before his move to Cyprus. Bernard McKever, 77 a former colleague, said that the couple were very friendly and decent. This is an unexpected surprise.
