Former bandmate Jimmy Somerville announced that Bronski Beat’s Steve Bronski, a star of Bronski Beat, has died at the age 61.
He was born Steve Forrest, a Scottish musician. In 1983, he co-founded 80s synthpop group with Larry Steinbachek and Somerville.
They enjoyed a number of Top 40 hits over the course of those early years, including a cover version of Donna Summer’s disco hit I Feel Love as well as Smalltown Boy.

Somerville, 60 years old, posted an Instagram statement confirming Bronski’s death. He was an accomplished and melodic musician.
“Working together on songs was fun, as well as the song that made our lives better and touched so many lives.
Bronski’s demise follows that of Steinbachek (bandmate), who passed away from cancer in 2016. He was 56.

He was raised in Glasgow’s Castlemilk council estate, and worked as a builder. In 1983, he moved to London, where he shared a flat in Brixton with his bandmates.
Through the involvement of Somerville, Steinbachek, and Framed Youth-Revenge of the Teenage Perverts he met Somerville. This documentary was made especially for an LGBTQ arts festival.
Smalltown Boy became a hit single immediately and was subsequently ranked number 3 in the UK Charts. The band quickly made a name for themselves as household names.
