A mother of 21 and father of 29 are being charged with the murders their 10 month-old son on Christmas Day last year

  • Today, Stephen Boden (29), and Shannon Marsden (21) were arrested for the murder of Finley, their 10-month old son, at South Derbyshire Magistrates Court.

An unidentified couple were arrested in relation to the killing of their baby Christmas Day, last year.

Stephen Boden, 29 years old, from Barrow Hill, Derbyshire was charged with murdering Finley Boden, 10-months-old, on December 25, 2020. Shannon Marsden (21), appeared before the South Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court.

They were accused of murdering their son and neglecting or abandoning him twice between Christmas Day and November 17, last year.

Boden, who was still in handcuffs during the hearing was dressed in grey pants and a jacket. He was joined by two officers in the dock Friday morning.

Marsden wore black jeans and a grey sweatshirt, but was not handcuffed. Both defendants were not asked for a plea.

Following a Friday hearing, the couple were advised that they would be spending the holidays, which includes the one-year anniversary of Finley’s passing, in prison while they await their trial.

The defendants only spoke when they confirmed their identities, addresses and birth dates. The details of Friday’s alleged murder weren’t discussed at court. 

After hearing that Finley wasn’t responding to his calls, paramedics raced to Old Whittington and arrived at the scene in just a few hours before Christmas Day. 

A 10-month-old boy was brought to the hospital. However, he was later declared dead.

Boden and Marsden were both remanded into prison until January 4th, 2022 when they will appear before Derby Crown Court.
