Author Rooney hit the headlines in October after  she defended rejecting the publisher’s offer to translate her new book – which topped UK and Irish charts since its release in September – saying she backed a cultural boycott of Israel.

The screenwriter and author were criticized for their decision.

Social media was used by some to call Miss Rooney’s decision ‘anti-Semitic’. Others questioned why Miss Rooney’s books were published in China, which is being accused of human rights violations over the treatment it gave Uighur Muslim Muslims.

The author, however, defended her decision. She stated that she was not going to publish the book by an Israeli publishing house and that Hebrew language rights were still available.
