In the aftermath of an open letter, the health officials have revealed that 40% to 40% of Omicron-related patients were not immunized.
Officials have been accused of panicking because they failed to provide daily updates that provided context on the number of people who had received treatment following testing positive for this ultra-infectious strain.
However, the UK Health Security Agency which has replaced the long-defunct PHE last night, slipped in additional information that provided more detail on the current status of affairs.
Patients in England have been admitted to hospital 668 times after being tested positive or suspect.
The agency’s national analysis revealed that 26.6% of those surveyed were not currently vaccinated. But the UKHSA revealed the figure was as high as 40 per cent in Omicron-hotspot London, which it had the most ‘robust’ data for. The findings “reflect the importance and effectiveness of vaccination uptake,” it said.
The death toll for this variant has been increased by the agency to 49.
Health officials have yet to disclose if any victims received boosters or if they died from the virus, even though there has been increasing pressure for more information.
UKHSA didn’t mention whether any patients admitted to hospital were given the third vaccine. This raises more questions regarding the current Covid outbreak in the country.
The UKHSA’s 41% figure does not necessarily mean that current vaccines do not work. However, most hospitalized patients were jabbed. Instead, it offers even more evidence of how effective jabs are — even in the face of Omicron. The vast majority of over-18s eligible for vaccination in Britain have been done so, which means that people who were vaccinated are a larger proportion of the total population. A separate UKHSA graph illustrating how vaccines work has been created. The data shows that unvaccinated adults are 8 times more likely be admitted to the hospital than individuals who received two doses.
According to the UK Health Security Agency, Omicron accounts for 90.4 percent of all England cases. Graph showing: Omicron is a more common variant than Delta, which has been shown to have a higher proportion over time.
MailOnline’s analysis reveals that England’s hardest-hit areas experienced a sextuple increase in Covid cases during the week prior to Christmas. Map showing Covid cases in England and Wales over the 7 days to December 15, (left), and 22 (right).
MailOnline has found that Lower Penwortham North’s cases rose from 196 per 100,000 to 1,192 in the week to December 22, according to the most recent regional data.
However, the UKHSA’s 40% figure does not mean that current vaccines are ineffective.
Instead, it offers even more evidence of how effective jabs are — even in the face of Omicron.
The vast majority of over-18s eligible for vaccination in Britain have had their shots. This means that people who were vaccinated are a larger proportion of the total population.
UKHSA separate data showing how effective vaccines are shows that unvaccinated adults have a higher risk of being admitted to the hospital than those who were given only two doses.
For intensive care units, the gap can be even greater as patients with no jabs are 60 times more likely not to require treatment.
A third jab will be added to the protection, although it is not expected that the jabs can prevent milder symptoms from developing if someone does catch the virus.
Because Omicron in London is still not fully dominant, the 40% figure cannot be translated to London’s admission numbers.
The majority of spread so far has occurred in younger individuals, who are less likely not to be fully jabbed. This will lead to an increase in hospital patients who were not Jabbed as part of the statistics.
Ministers use hospital numbers to decide if they need tougher Covid restrictions. This is now after vaccines have removed most of the focus from severe infections.
London’s hospital admissions per day are below 400, which could lead to a government intervention.
But doctors fear the capital’s numbers — which rose 73.4 per cent in the week ending Christmas Day — will continue to increase in the coming weeks because of the time lag between people getting infected and becoming severely ill.
They also warned that numbers could rise if different generations mix during Christmas, which would expose the most vulnerable elderly.
Critics have repeated their concern that NHS coronavirus admissions figures for daily are too high. They don’t distinguish between those admitted with Covid or people who were simply infected by the virus.
The total number of patients admitted to wards by health bosses is not disclosed. They also don’t disclose whether the patient was ill or if they have been subsequently tested positive.
However, the NHS statisticians already know how many Covid infected patients are being treated.
These data show that approximately 25% of all admissions are accidental cases in patients who have been admitted for another condition, like a routine operation or a broken leg.
Omicron is now widely shown to have milder effects than its predecessors. To give a clearer picture, experts and politicians are calling for daily Omicron figures to be used to compile a complete record of the NHS’s situation.
But NHS officials insist the total figure – which includes thousands of incidental cases – is still the most accurate way of looking at the pressure hospitals face because all Covid patients need to be isolated, regardless of how ill they are.
In addition to causing health issues, the virus may also cause patients to remain hospitalized.
The Sanger Institute is one of the largest national variant-tracking labs. It has data that shows how England became dominant within weeks of detecting the first ultra-transmissible case.
Omicron cases rose fastest in London before the rest of England caught up. This graph shows the number of Omicron-confirmed cases across England.
However, even though one of the NHS’s biggest advocates is outspoken about it, some hospitals haven’t seen an actual increase in Covid-infected patients despite increased official admissions.
Chris Hopson (chief executive at NHS Providers) stated: “We need to be careful about exacerbating current raw covid admit data.
“As the Covid community infected rate increases rapidly because of omicron we will see more of this kind of Covid in hospital.”
Although ministers maintain that the NHS will not be overtaken by Covid, the NHS was already in great trouble before this winter.
NHS data shows that hospitals have to manage rising demand while having fewer employees. Omicron has forced thousands of doctors and nurses to become self-isolating.
London’s most important trust in Covid has tripled the number of absences related to Covid in one week, underscoring the serious problem England is facing in the next weeks as the variant continues to be present in every part of England.
In order to deal with increased pressure, hospital leaders were instructed to make arrangements to install field facilities in parking lots.
