In desperate need of Strictly Come Dancing’s axe, Dan Walker launched a PR blitz

The Breakfast host was spared the eliminations last week, and he spoke out to three million viewers on Tuesday about his participation in the Morning Programme. 

His Thursday slot was for 13 minutes, which he shared with Nadiya Bychkova, his partner in dance.

Rounding off his blitz of self-promotion on Friday, Walker turned up on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two – meaning he had four days of exposure to millions of viewers that his fellow contestants missed out on.

The allegations that Walker is being favoured by the BBC are a part of this scandal. 

The 44-year-old last week escaped the dance-off, even though his score of 31 put him at the bottom of their leader board.

Although some viewers think his PR has kept him popular, other viewers are getting so tired of him using Breakfast as a platform to promote his dance that they’re switching off.

One commented, “When he stopped watching BBC Breakfast, we’ve stopped.” [Dan]He is always on because he keeps talking about Strictly. Additional exposure other contestants do not get.

Walker appealed for fans to not blame him for being still on the program two weeks ago. He tweeted: “Please don’t shout about me. I’m having an incredible time. My kids are thrilled and it’s just a television show.

“For those that are wondering, I don’t know who votes for us (probably Craig), but we are incredibly grateful to all who do.

Craig Revel Horwood, however, admitted yesterday that Walker is a close friend in an interview. 

Weekend magazine quoted him as saying that Dan was the one who made me fall in love and that I never expected to. His dancing was amazing and I didn’t know why so many people were choosing him.

‘But suddenly I thought, ‘Oh, I see why – he’s really sweet.’ What made people choose to vote the way they did?

The pair won 31 points last night when they danced the rumba to Desperado from The Eagles.

Three of the other five celebrities who left Strictly have connections to the BBC. Tilly Ramsay, Rhys Stephenson, and Tilly Ramsey both make appearances on the BBC’s kids channel CBeebies. Rose Ayling Ellis plays an EastEnders role.

Meanwhile, A.J. Odudu performed an energetic routine with Kai Widdrington, her partner.

Janelle Monae performed Make Me Feel on TV and the star won 36 points.

Last night John Whaite and Johannes Radebe topped the leader board with 39, while Tilly Ramsay and Nikita Kuzmin were at the bottom with 30.
