Disney fan, 24, ‘needed surgery after princess-themed glass from B&M exploded in her face as she drank’

  • Lauren Perks was 24, and she was washing down a tablet of tablets with water after glass burst.
  • According to her, the broken cup with a Disney theme left glass fragments in her stomach.
  • Lauren was placed under anaesthetic and kept awake for 2 hours while the glass was taken out.

A woman was left needing surgery to remove shards of glass from her mouth and stomach after a Disney princess-themed glass bought from B&M exploded in her face as she drank from it.

Lauren Perks, 24, from Barking, east London, was washing down a tablet with a glass of water on Thursday when the Disney-themed cup from B&M suddenly exploded.

The woman claimed she tried to swallow pieces of glass, but then realized she’d taken some medicine with it. She could feel the piece in her chest.

Lauren and fiancée Kelly, 24, rushed to A&E where she says x-rays revealed she had swallowed numerous different sized pieces of glass that had made their way into Lauren’s chest and stomach and could have been ‘tearing her insides’.

This was done to help the Disney fan, who had a disability and is currently unemployed.

Lauren stated, “It is literally such an accident. I was having a quick drink. I pulled the glass out from the cupboard, and then I poured myself water. It exploded as I was drinking it and cracked in my mouth.

“As I swallowed my tablet, the glass also came out of my mouth. It was all glass in my mouth, so I spit it out. But I was still bleeding.

Kelly ran to the scene of the smashing sound and was greeted by Kelly. Her eyes saw blood everywhere and she noticed the glasses.

“I didn’t feel pain, it was shock. I felt so upset and was beginning to weep.

“Then, a few minutes later my chest began to hurt. I knew I’d swallowed some so we went to A&E. I had quite a few pieces in there and when they removed them the doctors said there were more than expected.

They said that they wouldn’t be able to get every piece out of the tube so they’d need to open me but it was a good idea.

“They were concerned that the glass might have caused damage to my internal organs. After that, I was forced to spend three days in hospital because the doctors didn’t know how the glass could have caused injury.

After being admitted for 3 days, doctors were able to confirm that she had not sustained any damage from the glass. She is now on medication to improve her stomach.

Lauren received the Christmas set with two glasses, but she has been refusing to drink the glass cup since.

The Disney fan, who is unemployed due to a disability, was put under general anaesthetic for two hours while medics picked fragments of glass from her stomach by inserting a tube down her throat

Disney fans are unemployed because of a disability. They were put under general anesthesia for two hours, while doctors removed small pieces from their stomachs by placing a tube through her throat.

She explained that she was second-guessing herself, wondering what I might have done wrong.

“The glasses were not knocked upon being given to me. They were fine. There is no reason why it should explode this way.

Lauren says she’s been in touch with B&M to complain who have asked for a photo of the receipt and a sample of the glass to help them investigate.

Lauren explained that she doesn’t desire money, but just wants the glasses recalled. The glasses have a Disney theme so that kids can use them.

“I am still in pain and sore. My stomach hurts. I don’t want to wear glasses. I have only ever used plastic cups.

A B&M spokesperson said: ‘We are aware of this and we’re currently waiting for the customer to get back to us so we can investigate further.’

B&M were asked if the incident had been reported to Disney but failed to respond.

Disney has been reached out for comments.
