New data shows that dog-lovers increasingly prefer European breeds to traditional British dogs.

Although the Labrador continues to be the UK’s top dog, The Kennel Club has reported that the French bulldog (owned by Madonna as well as David Beckham) is currently No2. 

In 2001, there were just 160 registered puppies but last year it was 37,590.

The Italian pointer and Belgian shepherd dogs are also becoming increasingly popular in Europe.
