A drink-driver who killed his friend and a 16-year-old girl ‘he was trying to impress’ after he ploughed his high-powered BMW into a tree has been jailed for eight and a half years.
Kane Faulkner-Wild, 23, was driving fast and had his hand on Sophia Khan’s leg just seconds before the tragic crash that killed her and 21-year-old Max Halcrow.
The crash that occurred in Loughton on August 24, 2019, left two other teens seriously injured.
Kane Faulkner Wild claimed that Sophia (16) was driving the BMW M3 4L engine. However, his DNA could be found on both the door handle and driver’s side airbag.
Faulkner Wild received a sentence of eight years and six month at Chelmsford Crown Court. He was convicted in December for causing the death by dangerous driving.
Prosecutor Meyrick Williams stated at a January 6 hearing that Faulkner-Wild exceeded the alcohol limit by around two-and-a-half times.

He believed that Sophia, 16 years old was driving the BMW M3 with a 4L-engine BMW M3 engine. However his DNA was discovered on the driver’s side airbag and the handle of the car door.

According to the court, Faulkner/Wild tried to impress Sophia. Max then told Max to slow down because we all are going to die.
Williams stated that the vehicle had traveled 50 to 100 metres on the verge, before it collided with the tree. This caused severe damage.
Their deaths were caused by the impact. The rear end of the vehicle was almost in a straight line to its front.
The airbags in the vehicle were activated and Sophia, who was sitting in the front seat, and Max in the back, died at the scene.
The 16-year-olds Mae Hunt and Alana Cooper, who were then passengers, sustained severe injuries that required weeks of rehabilitation in hospital.
Faulkner Wild was found outside his car by officers as a passing police vehicle. Later, he was found to be consuming around 149mg alcohol per 100ml breath. This is around twice the legal limit.
Max Halcrow, Max’s father and mother spoke out after the verdict. They described Max Halcrow as a “gorgeous boy with kind hearts”.
Faulkner Wild was criticised for not telling truthful details about who drove the car.
The entire family released a statement saying that Max was gone. He was a true friend and loved to live life with his friends.

However, the airbags in the car were activated and Sophia, who was sitting in the front seat, and Max in the back, died at the scene.

Max was a beautiful boy who had a bright future with his kind heart.
“Our family was subject to an inhumane trial over the past two years, based on coercive and lack-of empathy. This caused us to go back to Max’s funeral.
“This could all have been avoided, if truth was told from the beginning. Max may not be there, but he will be always with us.
Sophia’s mom, Nourin Khan, said to the court, ‘She didn’t even have a chance at living her life.
“Her dream of becoming a criminal attorney was not realized.” The love and admiration of her friends was her greatest gift.
Faulkner Wild, in addition to the sentence of imprisonment was also disqualified from driving for ten years and eight month.
