Electronic Arts Inc. on Tuesday announced that the two-decade old partnership it has with FIFA for video gaming was ending.
Millions of soccer players all over the world love to play this game. In the 20 years since its inception, more than $20B has been made.
Their partnership was set to end after this year’s World Cup in Qatar, but has now been adjusted to run through the Women’s World Cup next summer, according to the New York Times.
Once that is over, the video game giant plans to launch EA Sports FC in 2023, an interactive form of gaming in collaboration with more than 300 partners across the world of soccer.
Due to licensing agreements between the leagues and teams, the new game will feel very similar to FIFA Video Game players.
Major FIFA events such as the World Cup are not included.
EA shares fell by nearly 3 percentage in after-hours trading on the news.
