One pensioner was killed after he swallowed his false teeth in mugging.
It is thought that the OAP was injured in an accident outside of Medellin’s library.
After beating him, the mugger asked Gabriel de Jesus Pulgarin Bolivar 71 for a new phone.
According to local reports, the elderly man was seen raising his arms to his throat while sitting on a bench. A Good Samaritan then gave him a glass water after observing that he was having difficulties.
People who swallow dentures can be very dangerous and have been known to sustain injuries from falls, impacts and other factors.
The victim was able to tell police what happened, before the condition got worse.
The man was taken to Doce de Octubre, a nearby health center. However, he died.
Jose Galindo (Police chief) confirmed to the local media that an assault suspect was taken into police custody around 9:00 AM local on Tuesday.
While the results of an autopsy are still not public, it is believed that they confirmed that OAP was killed after false teeth blocked his airway.
It is very uncommon for someone to swallow their dentures. False teeth swallowing has been associated with injuries, falls, accidents, and food.
RCN Radio (one of Colombia’s most important radio networks) was among the national media that reported on the death.
The bizarre incident took place in the city of Medellín, Colombia, capital of the Antioquia department and the only city in Colombia with a metro system
It said: “An elderly man choked to death after swallowing his dentures from the shock of being mugged for his phone in one of the streets of the October 12 neighbourhood in north-west Medellin.”
A local newspaper reported that the mugger dislodged OAP’s dentures after he hit him on the head.
