Sloane Stephens told Emma Raducanu, despite her win in the first round of their Australian Open clash, that there is still a lot she can learn.

Stephens was defeated by Raducanu in three sets, Tuesday. It took only 17 minutes for the second set to be completed.

The 19-year old quickly recovered her momentum after being broken three times by her own serve during a second frustrating match. She won the third set 6-0, 2-6 and 6-1.

Sloane Stephens told Emma Raducanu, “a lot to do” in tennis.

Stephens seemed to be questioning Raducanu’s behaviour on court and told her that there would be many ups and downs in the sport.

Stephens explained that after her first point, everyone noticed.

‘She played with me. Someone she is supposed to rank-wise beat. “She won. 

After adding, the 28-year old added that it was a long journey for her. So there will likely be many ups and downs. She has a lot of things to learn, I believe.

“I was speaking to someone in the locker area and I said, “We’ll all be there when she comes down.”

‘Not Emma but just in general. You can see it all as a cycle. It is important to be able to cope with the ups and downs early. There are always ups and downs, but that doesn’t mean tennis is easy.

Raducanu revealed after the victory that she was inspired by Andy Murray’s thrilling five-set win over Nikoloz Basilashvili earlier in the day.

“Then he got pushed down to five. He fought so hard for the fifth set, and won the decisive.

“So, when I went three…” [sets]I also thought, “Actually. I can fight back. I will win the decider.” I wanted to fight just like him. He was an inspiration to me.
