A 17-year old girl died from cardiac arrest shortly after she gave birth. Her devastated family today called for a coroner in order to examine possible medical negligence at an NHS Hospital.

Teegan Barnard (17) suffered cardiac arrest two hours after giving birth to Parker at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, West Sussex, on September 9.

She died at her home in Havant, Hampshire just one month later on October 7, after being discharged to spend her final days there.

Teegan’s ‘devastated’ parents, Abbie Hallawell and Trevor Barnard, revealed they have ‘a number of concerns’ about the circumstances surrounding their teenage daughter’s tragic death.

Ms Hallawell & Mr Barnard called West Sussex Coroner’s Court, to investigate the facts. A coroner’s inquest into why Teegan (a pizza chef) died is scheduled for now.

In her last photographs, the teenager was seen cradling her baby in hospital. Her family stated that she was excited to become a mother and was very happy with her experience.

Parker’s parents, Leon Forster, and Ms Hallawell are currently raising him with Mr Barnard.

Teegan Barnard (age 17) was left with irreversible brain damage. She had been starved for oxygen just two hours before she gave birth to her healthy baby boy Parker.

Ms Hallawell stated that Teegan, her family and friends were thrilled when she became pregnant. She had been looking forward to having children and would have made a wonderful mother.

Teegan was 'really looking forward to becoming a parent', her mother said

Teegan said that she was looking forward to being a parent.

It still seems unbelievable that Teegan’s last day was such a great one. We are all forever changed by it.

“It’s been two years since Teegan passed away, yet time seems to have stood still for my family.

‘I understand that the inquest is going to cause a lot of distress and I will be listening to all the evidence about Teegan’s death. But it is something I must do, not just for Teegan but for Parker as well.

“Teegan would be proud of Parker, and how happy he is to see him grow every day. Although he won’t have his mom, he’ll remember how Teegan loved him as a child and how she will be there for him throughout his childhood.

Rebecca Brown from Irwin Mitchell, who is representing the family as a specialist in medical negligence, stated that the firm would seek out answers from the Coroner.

She stated, “This is a really tragic case. It saw what should be a time for celebration for family turn into absolute despair.”

“Ununderstandably Abbie and Trevor, along with the rest of their family are still devastated at Teegan’s sudden death in young and unexpected circumstances.

Teegan Barnard, her baby Parker. The West Sussex Coroner’s Court will hold an inquest into Teegan’s murder on January 7, 2022. This is likely to go on for four days.

“The last two-years and trying to begin to deal with Teegan’s death while simultaneously having several concerns has proven extremely challenging.

We can do nothing to make up Teegan’s passing, but we will support his family during the Inquest.

“If there are any concerns during the hearing it’s important that they are addressed.

On 7 January 2022, a West Sussex Coroner’s Court inquest will be opened into Teegan’s murder. This is likely to last for four days.
