Ben Myers, Q.C., defense, asked Monaghan to explain why he had lied during an interview.
He explained that the police had tried to seize me from my eyes.
“It was very difficult to let go of this lie. Because I did not want police officers to find out I bought them, it was a lie that I made up.
“But, eventually, I realized that I needed to tell the truth.”
Monaghan stated that the drug was purchased for his personal use. He began using them from August to December 2019.

Monaghan answered Mr Myers’ question: ‘When have you gotten the drugs, was that any kind of connection with Evie Adam?
Monaghan responded: “No. Never.’

Monaghan, a Preston Crown Court judge, Lancs also said that Miss Adams often threatened suicide.

“She would tell me she had taken pills, but she never said so. I asked her questions and she always replied differently.
A jury heard that Miss Adams, a foster child of her parents, had had an unhappy relationship with them. She said they regretted adopting her and would not have adopted her again.

Monaghan, left, is being charged with the murders of Ruby (three-week-old) and Logan (21-month-old), which Monaghan shared with Laura Gray.
