A former grammar school teacher who groomed, controlled and repeatedly sexually assaulted one of her pupils then offered her £10,000 when she threatened to go to the police has been jailed for six years.
Carly Dear, 46 years old, met her first girl, and they became “attached” when Carly taught at Maidstone grammar school for girls, Kent.
Dear harassed and threatened the victim for 5 years, calling her every day to say that she missed her.
Dear followed the teenage girl to her university campus, locking her up in a hotel room to practice sex acts.
On Friday, the ex-teacher was sent to Canterbury Crown Court and sentenced to six year imprisonment.

She first saw the girl as a PE teacher and they became “attached” when she taught at Maidstone Grammar School for Girls (pictured).
Dear gave the teenage girl sweets, before she would repeatedly sexually assault her.
Also, the teacher told her that she loves her and invited her to Whitstable, Kent. There she began performing more serious sexual acts.
Dear continued to chase the student even after her university graduation. He traveled to her college and put her in a room at a hotel.
When the girl said she was going to the police, Dear ‘panicked’ and said she would send her around £10,000, jurors were told.
As she described in court her traumatized childhood, the victim wept.
She stated that the abuse had a lasting effect on her anxiety, from the moment she wakes up until the time she falls asleep.
According to her, she told the court she is always worried about something and doesn’t know why. It is a fearful thought that once the court process has ended, I may not feel as good, and will be right back where I was. Each day I feel the effects of her actions.
‘When she calls her her, it makes me sick.
“Most of my time, I feel angry. It makes me feel very embarrassed, because my relationships are not great. I have a hard time building relationships with people.
“I can’t trust myself anymore, because I trusted her. She abused me.” She cannot, and will never do it again.
Dear, who was clearly distressed when her victim mentioned her trauma in the dock, appeared visibly upset.
Dear was also a teacher at Rochester Grammar School and a performing arts college near Hythe during a trial in the same court.

The girl would be harassed by her phone, and she’d say “I missed you so much,” when she returned from vacations. A court heard.
Dear was found guilty by jurors of six counts of historical sexual abuse. This occurred while Dear was an active PE teacher at Maidstone’s grammar school.
Judge Mark Weekes said Dear jurors had convicted her of the crime on the grounds that there was ‘clear evidence and convincing evidence.
He said, “The impact has been unsurprisingly profoundly shocking.”
“Your grooming and abuse of her removed a crucial part of her youth. You also abused your trust position in the most disgusting way.
Judge Weekes stated that Dear, who continues to protest her innocence, had “no remorse nor insight” into her actions.
Four counts of indecent attack were brought against the former Ashford women’s hockey captain. There was one abusing position of trust, and inciting sexual behavior with a girl.
A single count of sexual abuse was not filed against her. It involved an allegation that she touched the girl while she was changing clothes at school.
The court was informed that Dear had stopped teaching since then and does not wish to go back.
Once she is released, she must notify authorities for indefinitely whenever she moves or begins a new job.
Nadine Chbat (mitigating) said Dear had a good past and pointed out a few personal references that ‘continued to speak about her positive character.
Dear, who was on remand for assault and bullying, was moved to less hostile accommodation by the prison.
