Ghislaine Maxwell was keen to testify at the New York trial, but her legal team deemed her too frail and mentally unstable.

This news is as she celebrates her 549th birthday today in New York’s Metropolitan Detention Centre.

Sunday’s Mail can report that the socialite in disgrace is afraid the judge will ‘throw the book at’ her during her upcoming sentencing hearing. She will be sentenced to death.

Maxwell’s lawyers fear it will be at least five months before she is sentenced – and she may remain at the Metropolitan Detention Centre a year if an appeal is granted.

Maxwell turned 60 this Christmas Day. Her friend shared that Maxwell wanted to defend her in court. However, Maxwell’s detention had shaken Maxwell’s confidence and broken her spirits.

According to the source, “Ghislaine was willing to defend herself.” She would have taken the stand if she were the Ghislaine of old.

“She was desperate to stand but is now too weak and broken.

Ghislaine was a lively participant in many discussions with her legal team.

“In the end, it was determined that she wasn’t strong enough to stand a withering cross examination.”

Maxwell, who was convicted of five of six counts of recruiting and trading young girls for Jeffrey Epstein’s paedophile billionaire, was said to have been crushed during her time in prison.

She has to be on suicide watch round the clock and can only wear paper clothes and her underwear. One source said that she cannot have bras in the event of her suicide attempt.

Maxwell was clearly influenced by her friends during her trial of four weeks in which victims gave details about how Maxwell groomed and abuse them. Maxwell never believed that she would be given a fair trial. That is why her emotions were so low when she was convicted.

She believes that the judge will sentence her to the maximum of 65 years. She expects a lengthy sentence. This sentence will most likely mean she dies in prison. She doesn’t believe that she will ever see outside again.

Maxwell was referred to as a ‘living hell’ after she felt that she had been ‘tortured during her trial. The friend said that Maxwell was taken from her prison cell to the court’s holding cells at four o’clock every morning. She had very little or no food.

On the day of her conviction, she consumed two cheese slices, one banana and several packets of crisps. She was celebrating her Christmas Day last Saturday and was not allowed to visit as Covid was rifling through jail. It was a cold and soggy pizza with cheese. The situation has gotten even worse after her conviction. Covid has caused the jail to be closed and Covid is now being kept in isolation on suicide watch.

Her mattress is now gone. Her clothes are only made of paper. She is monitored 24 hours a day. She is being monitored 24/7.

Legal sources claimed that she had been given “maggoty apples”, bread with mould, and rancid food to eat. They also added: “As of Wednesday night, she is on full suicidal watch.” They keep an eye on her all the time. To determine her prison term, Judge Alison Nathan will use a report prepared by parole officials tomorrow.

Legal source said: “They will examine her background, schooling and her parents. This is not unusual. This process usually takes three months. However, because Ghislaine has spent most of her adult life abroad and Covid is involved in the decision making, we anticipate the entire process taking five months.

Maxwell’s relatives remain “totally convinced” of Maxwell’s innocence, and feel that she is the victim in Epstein’s crimes. The two have teamed up with an ITV/CBS documentary which will air in the UK on February 2.

Ian, her brother, said she’d become “the most demonized woman in the entire world” and added that: “She is doing Epstein’s time and it is absolutely wrong.”

Maxwell’s siblings will be back in court when Maxwell is sentenced – but her victims also want their day in court. Maxwell will be sentenced on Monday by a jury of dozens of Epstein victims who have pledged to “stare down” Maxwell when they learn her fate.

Bradley Edwards was a representative of many Maxwell and Epstein victims. He stated that there will be a line to the exit. He said, “I have over 20 clients who are willing to testify.” Ghislaine’s ‘good’ character will be described by one person, while two others can describe her real character.

Lisa Bloom who represented at least six victims said that her clients wanted to see Maxwell’s last fall live. There could even be more than 30 girls. Many people see this as their opportunity to confront their enemy. Maxwell, according to reports, learned from her husband that he had left her. She’moved along’ with a beautiful yoga instructor over a telephone call during her isolation.

Scott Borgerson (46), secretly wed Maxwell in 2016, after his divorce from his first wife. The tech boss vowed to stand by Maxwell and offered to help fund a £21million bail offer, but the marriage is over.

A friend stated that there was an intense phone conversation between the two of them during her time in isolation. This became confrontational. Scott revealed to her that he was dating someone else. After that, the marriage became more strained.

“The Scott relationship was truly a love story. But after Epstein’s suicide and Ghislaine’s focus, it became difficult for them to be together.
