The 2022 Golden Globes nominations were announced on Monday with Power Of The Dog and Belfast leading the pack with seven nominations apiece.
Kristen Stewart was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Princess Diana, Spencer. She will be up against Lady Gaga, who faced criticism for portraying Patrizia Reggiani (House of Gucci) The ladies are joined by Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter) and Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos) in the Drama category.
Nominations are being made in the shadow of uncertainty about the attendees of the ceremony. Stars called for a boycott after learning that the HFPA panel was not representative of all races.
Helen Hoehne, President of HFPA, addressed the scandal before announcing the nominees. She stated: ‘This year has been a year full of changes and reflection. We have worked hard to make this a better year. We have also 21 new members, the most extensive and diverse group in history.

Jamie Dornan and Catriona Balfe star in the film, and earned themselves nominations in the Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress in a Drama category, while Kenneth is up for Best Director.
Best Director for a Motion Picture will be between Kenneth, The Power of the Dog’s Jane Campion, Maggie Gyllenhaal for the Lost Daughter, Denis Villenevue for Dune and West Side Story’s Steven Spielberg.
Kristen and Gaga received Best Actress nominations for Spencer and House Of Gucci. However, neither of their films was nominated.
Spencer takes place during the breakup of the 15-year, high-profile marriage of Princess Diana to Prince Charles. This took place on three days in the House of Windsor’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk in 1991.
The film received mostly positive reviews. However, royal experts called it ‘cruel” and ‘unnecessarily gratuiteous’. They claimed that the movie stripped the princess of her respect and dignity.
Gaga also came under fire for her role as Patrizia Reggiani in House Of Gucci which follows the family’s scandal when Patrizia ordered a hit on fashion heir ex Maurizio Gucci, played by Adam Driver.
The Gucci family were not pleased with the film, saying in a statement that the portrayal ‘couldn’t be further from the truth’ and that they take issue with how members were painted ‘as thugs, ignorant and insensitive to the world around them.’

Elsewhere in the film categories, Don’t Look Up, Adam McKay’s apocalypse satire, picked up four nominations, including Best Film – comedy or musical and Best Actor/Actress for Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence – despite the movie receiving mixed reviews from critics.
Also bagging four nominations were King Richard, in which Will Smith plays the father of Venus and Serena Williams and has been nominated for Best Actor, and Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story.
You can find the musical/comedy films category. Cyrano, Don’t Look Up, Licorice Pizza, Tick Tick Boom and West Side Story will battle it out.
The most-nominated television series was Succession with five mentions. Ted Lasso followed closely with four.
Succession follows The Logan family known for controlling the biggest media and entertainment company in the world. But their world will change when their father leaves.

As the nominations were announced Snoop Dogg put his own unique spin on the pronunciation of acclaimed actors’ names.
The legendary musician of 50 raised a laugh from the audience as he revealed Ben Affleck was a nominee for Best Supporting actor in The Tender bar – though he called him ‘Been Afflay’.
Confronting his mistakes, he laughed at himself and apologized for it Ben Affleck.
The blunders didn’t stop there as Snoop notably paused before announcing Ciarán Hinds’ nomination in the same category for Belfast, saying ‘Ca-ron, no sorry, Karen Hinds, work with me now!’
Sweat star Denis Villeneuve was then praised by fans for naming him Best Director Motion Picture nominee Denis Villain Uawver.
Nominations for the Awards were submitted after stars and sponsors had expressed major opposition to them.
NBC announced in May it wouldn’t air the 2022 Golden Globe Awards in January. Criticism of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was so strong that Tom Cruise returned all three awards.

She said, “Unless there are necessary fundamental reforms within the organization,” and she continued: “I believe it’s time to take a look back at the HFPA in order to focus on the strength and importance of unity within our industry and unions.”

After it became clear that 90 of the HFPA members were not black, they came under attack.
The HFPA has nominated nine individuals of color in the acting and directing categories amid the blazestorm – exactly the same amount as the 2021 Awards.
The Golden Globes’ history of ignoring black- or minority-led movies and TV series has also been frequently criticised.

Netflix and Amazon Studios stated that they would be cutting ties with the HFPA if it did not swiftly make drastic changes.
‘We don´t believe these proposed new policies – particularly around the size and speed of membership growth – will tackle the HFPA´s systemic diversity and inclusion challenges, or the lack of clear standards for how your members should operate,’ Netflix co-chief executive Ted Sarandos wrote in a letter to the group.

WarnerMedia announced that they would no longer hold screenings or other events in support of the HFPA unless it makes more substantive changes.
WarnerMedia executives wrote that they were aware of the demands made by employees for special favors, perks and other unprofessional requests. ‘We have been complaining as an industry but we have largely tolerated such behavior up to now.
NBC released a statement saying that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has its support and is working towards reform. However, NBC stated in a statement that change cannot be made fast enough to ensure next year’s Globes.
According to the network, ‘change of this scale takes time, work and dedication, so we believe that the HFPA must be patient and do the right thing. NBC has decided not to air the Golden Globes in 2022. If the plan is followed, then we expect to be able to broadcast the show on January 20, 2023.
While the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) didn’t respond to NBC’s decision regarding the 2022 telecast, its board members set out their schedule of reforms. This eventually led to a reformed membership and board in early August as well as many policy modifications.
