This is the shocking moment that a man holding a firearm is forced to his knees by police officers during an arrest for attacking his wife.

The incident happened when police visited Leigh Walkington’s cottage in Northwold, Norfolk on July 9 at 7.34pm.

The officer is captured charging at Walkington (43 years old) with a gun. Later, it was discovered to be an imitation pistol.

Walkington was unconvinced that the gun was his, and the officer took him into custody in just seconds.

In the video, Walkington stands at his front door wearing a Marvel comics t-shirt with a ‘Dream Team’ caption as four officers explain that he is under arrest for ‘revenge porn’ and ‘ABH’.

In a matter of seconds, he attempts to close the window-fronted doors and quickly retreats inside his house to take the replica gun off a table.

He shouts “Get Out!” and points his gun at the officer, who is following him in the well-lit room.

Walkington is chased by the officer, who shouts “no” and holds his gun in his left arm.

One cop tells Walkington: ‘Officer with a taser, put the f***ing thing down now.’

The officers are trying to disarm Walkington by disarming him, but a barking dog can be heard. Walkington grumbles and then groans.

Walkington was restrained by four officers in just over thirty seconds.

This month, Walkington was sentenced for 13 months prison after admitting to having an imitation gun with the intent of resisting arrest and assault by beating.

One officer spoke out after the incident and said that Walkington pulled the gun from the table, pointed at him, and I didn’t know what it was he meant to do.

“Given the opportunity, I believe that he would use it against us or himself.

“I was surrounded by tasers, but I was able to react instinctively and, with the support of my colleagues gained control over him.”

‘His behaviour only changed when more of us got involved, if there hadn’t have been four of us there, the situation could have been very different.

‘I felt quite shaken afterwards but I’m glad we were able to resolve it safely because if we hadn’t, someone could have been seriously injured or worse.’

Inspector Chris Smith, of Norfolk Police, said: ‘This was a scary situation for officers to be faced with, particularly as they’re not firearms trained.

‘You can see from the body-worn video how quickly Walkington’s behaviour changes and had it not been for the swift reaction of officers at the scene, it could have ended very differently.

‘Incidents involving firearms, whether genuine or imitation, are dealt with seriously because of the threat they pose and in the heat of the moment, it’s impossible to tell whether a firearm is real or fake.’
