An inquest revealed that a father-of-1 died from a brainbleed 11 days after his AstraZeneca vaccination.

Adam Bounds, 41, passed away at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth on May 31 this year after his Covid-19 vaccine caused a ‘very rare’ fatal side effect.

Dr Wayne Thomas, a consultant haematologist at Derriford Hospital, told the Plymouth coroner Mr Bounds’ diagnosis was ‘vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia’.

The diagnosis is a rare one, with just 260 instances in the UK. When it causes bleeding, around 70% to 75% of patients will die.

Because it’s a test that must be performed at Bristol, Dr Thomas stated that the hospital didn’t know of the diagnosis until “after the event”. His doctor confirmed the diagnosis of vaccine-induced hemoglobinemia through discussions with expert in the field.

Adam Bounds, 41 (pictured), died at Derriford Hospital Plymouth on May 31, after his Covid-19 vaccination caused a fatal side effect.

Les Bounds, his father answered all questions and said that his son would have received the vaccine “anyway”. He also stated that he had “everything to life for”.

Ian Arrow, the senior coroner said that he would make a narrative ending stating that Mr Bounds’ had been immunized 11 days before his death.

He said, “On balance of probabilities it created a vaccine induced thrombocytopenia. Adam was then at risk of haemorrhage due to his low platelet count.

“He received platelets, but unfortunately succumbed in a hemorhage.”

After complaining of headaches, his father found Mr Bounds in Bristol, where he lived until his passing.

The coroner said Mr Bounds, a financial sales manager who was described as the ‘life and soul of the party’, felt cold after returning to his parent’s house from a barbecue on May 30 this year.

Senior coroner Ian Arrow said he would record a narrative conclusion stating that Mr Bounds (pictured) had been vaccinated 11 days before his death against Covid 19

Ian Arrow, the senior coroner said that he would make a narrative ending stating that Mr Bounds was vaccinated against Covid 19.

He went on to be sick in the night and when Mr Bounds’ father checked on him in the morning he said he thought he could have eaten ‘something dodgy’ at the barbecue.

By lunchtime he complained of a headache and took paracetamol but he continued to deteriorate to the point where his father called for an ambulance.

Adam’s father did not report any injury to Adam. Adam only said that Adam went to the gym the day after lockdown had ended. This led to questions about whether Adam was overexerting.

South Western Ambulance Service paramedics heard that Mr Bounds suffered from migraines. His pain score was a ‘ten-out of ten. The paramedics discovered that Bounds couldn’t stand and was very weak with his arms and legs.

Paramedics told him he’d vomited three more times in the past night, once in the morning and twice again in the evening. After he lost consciousness, he was taken by ambulance to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

CT scanning revealed that he had suffered an acute right-frontal haemorrhage, which was causing brain stem compression. For neurosurgery, he was transferred to Derriford Hospital.

Dr Thomas said 'vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia' was associated with clots and not necessarily in the brain, but also in the abdomen, which Dr Shivani had noted in his report (file image)

Dr Thomas claimed that “vaccine-induced hemothrombotic synthrombocytopenia” was associated with the formation of clots not just in the brain but also the abdomen. This Dr Shivani has noted in his file (file image).

The surgeon noticed Mr Bounds was extremely swollen in his brain and it was not improving despite having removed the blood.

The neurosurgeon decided not to proceed with craniotomy any further “due to futility”. He said that there was a negligible chance for survival and recovery if the hemostasis evacuation did not occur.

The cause of death was intracerebral hemorhage (operated). Dr Adity Shivane, consultant neuropathologist found an intracerebral hemorhage (operated) during post mortem.

A tumour or other cancer could not have caused the large bleeding. The toxicological evaluation was also inconclusive.

Dr Shivane stated that there were no signs of injury or trauma and that the death was due to a spontaneous bleed.

Although he said that there wasn’t evidence of heart attacks, he noted haemorrhaging and blood clots within the right kidney.

Dr Thomas claimed that “vaccine-induced brain thrombotic trombocytopenia” was associated with the formation of clots. This is in addition to the presence in the brain.

Mr Bounds' (pictured) funeral was held at the Minster Church in Axminster on June 18 this year

On June 18, Mr Bounds was buried at Axminster Minster Church.

His brother said that Mr Bounds was loved by his family and local community. His son Owen, his father Les and his brother Jamie are left behind.

“He will be deeply missed. He was life and soul and made sure to make the most of his 41 year career.”

On June 18, Mr Bounds was buried at Axminster’s Minster Church.

According to his family, donations were sent to the RNLI as “Lifeboat Week was Adam’s favorite event”

Covid-19 restrictions meant that hundreds of mourners gathered in front of the church to witness the funeral. Many of them were football fans.

Bounds enjoyed football, and used to play for Axminster town and Uplyme.

The coffin had an England and Liverpool FC shirt draped on it.
