Andrew Ward, Met Office forecaster, said that it wasn’t surprising the job was so highly compensated as Heathrow has difficulties during heavy snow periods (stock image).
“Wet snow poses more problem because it can turn to slush or ice which makes it more difficult to remove than dry snow, which can easily be blown away.
“It is more difficult to maintain an airport’s smooth running because of additional hazards such as ice and the aircraft require deicing.
The announcement comes at a time Heathrow is launching a new recruitment drive before Christmas. Heathrow currently has 600 open frontline jobs.
After the relaxation of travel restrictions, west London Airport is seeking new engineers, security officers and other positions.
