After a nine-week struggle with the virus, a surgeon who was forced to spend four months in exile from his family while he worked on Covid wards during the pandemic has passed away.

A dedicated husband and father of four children, Dr Irfan Halim (45), was skilled in surgery at Swindon Hospital.

According to his wife’s grief, Dr Halim was described as ‘ten men in a single body.’ He started work on September 10th and didn’t return home until the end. He died last weekend.

The past two years Dr Halim spent saving Covid patients. September 10, however, was another day that saved lives.

After allegedly contracting the disease at work, he was seen on a ward-round in his scrubs. He then collapsed at his office.

His wife Saila Halim said: 'My beloved Irfan passed away on the Sunday, November 14 at 7.51pm peacefully whilst I held him in my arms whispering prayers and love into his ears along with his brother and sister surrounded by his beautiful friends'

Two weeks of treatment at Swindon Hospital’s intensive care unit was given to Dr Halim before he was transferred to The Royal Brompton Hospital, London for treatment with an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (special artificial lung) and continued treatment there.

One of his colleagues said that he was a fighter and never lost heart. He believed that he would be able to recover.

A friend stated that he didn’t drink or smoke and was someone who just helped people “every day”.

In a heart-breaking post on social media, Mrs Halim said: 'Irfan you gave me fifteen magical years as your wife, four beautiful children, wonderful memories that will last me until my remaining days in this world.' Pictured: A post on his GoFundMe

On social media Mrs Halim posted a sad and heartbreaking message: “Irfan, you gave me fifteen magic years as my wife, four wonderful children, amazing memories that will endure me through my last days here in the world.”
