A pair of best friends from high school are celebrating the marriage of their son and daughter — who fell in love despite being raised hundreds of miles apart.

People reported that Madeline Cohen was married to Adam Rosenstein on October 24, 26, 26 years later than they were both born in the same week.

Their mothers, Ruth Cohen, 54, and Shery Rosenstein, 55, had plenty of visits over the years during which Madeline and Adam got to know each other — and eventually, as teens, the two began keeping in touch of their own, going to his senior prom and becoming a couple in college.

In 2008, Adam popped the question on a bench in San Francisco — the same one where he and Madeline had posed together as five-year-olds.

Ruth and Shery were best friends when they attended the same high school in California.

Even as they moved to different parts of the country, they stayed close — and as fate would have it, they both ended up pregnant at the same time, with the same due date in June of 1995.

The only problem with this story was the shared birthday. Maddie came a month before Adam in Atlanta and Adam didn’t arrive until July in New York.

The two were born in New York. She was raised in Colorado. They met at the age of four months. The two would see each other periodically over the next years.

Adam believes there was an early connection, referring to a visit they had when they were just eight years old. Adam shared a meal with Maddie and they had a wonderful conversation.

As they grew older, they learned — through their mothers — that they had a lot in common and experienced similar things at the same time. They would both win awards the following week, or have strep hives at the same moment.

They didn’t form a close friendship until they visited New York as a family at the age of 14. After that, they kept in touch.

‘She was the friend I could talk to about everything — even the stuff I don’t want to talk to her about,’ Adam said. She was a perfect, ideal woman to me.

Adam invited Maddie to the prom when he was senior.

“Before my knowledge, I was in New York partying the night away with my friend. I soon realized that I had feelings beyond friendship for my best friend. Maddie explained to The Knot, “He felt exactly the same way.”

Adam also said he was excited to go to prom with his ‘best friend,’ and that night, they had their first kiss.

But they knew that having any sort of serious relationship wasn’t ‘practical’ because they lived so far apart — and would stay that way when they went off to college, with him attending the University of Rochester in New York and her going to Drake University in Iowa.

Even though they were miles apart, they maintained contact via long telephone calls, and soon discovered that it was true love.

In high school the offspring became long-distanced friends, and Madeline went with Adam to prom

They began dating while attending different colleges and both moved to California upon graduation

After graduating from different colleges, they began to date and moved together to California.

Maddie stated, “Finally during our second year of college we decided that our feelings could endure the distance. We officially began dating in October 2014.”

She added that “we both had an it’s-now/never moment.” She said that although we knew there were a million reasons not to get what we wanted we both decided to just say, “Screwit, this is the time to make it happen.”

‘The distance wasn’t all bad — we got to travel the world together (he even visited me when I studied abroad in Italy!).’

Ruth, Madeline’s mother insists throughout that Shery and she weren’t pushy.

After graduating from college, they moved to California in 2017, where they lived just 45 minutes apart.

Then, on October 13, 2014 — the fourth anniversary of their first date — Adam popped the question. Adam had the ideal spot in his mind.

In 2018, Adam proposed on a bench in San Francisco - where they'd posed together as five-year-olds

Adam proposed to his wife on a San Francisco bench. They had previously been five-years-olds and had posed for the proposal in 2018.

'And so, the two moms who became best friends in high school got to celebrate their kids getting engaged over 30 years later,' Maddie said

Maddie shared that the moms became best friends during high school and got to celebrate their daughters getting married over 30 years later.

He explained that when they were five years old our parents took us along to San Francisco’s park and snapped a picture of us sitting on a bench.

‘Ever since we started dating, we’d talked about recreating the photo in the same spot, but no one could remember exactly where it was taken.’

He tracked it down on Google Street View and invited Maddie to recreate the photo.

“Just as we were about to ask for a photographer to take our photo, he got down to one knee and asked me to spend forever together. “Yes!” I replied. She said.

Adam’s and Maddie’s parents flew in from far away to celebrate.

Maddie explained that they were able to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their sons’ engagement by Maddie, Maddie’s best friend in high school.

Finally, last month, they had a 'big family reunion' and married in front of 85 guests

They finally got married last month in front of 85 friends at a big family reunion

The couple initially planned to get married in January. Nov. 2020. However, their nuptials were delayed one year due to the pandemic.

Last month they held a big family reunion and were married before 85 guests.

Adam stated, “We have always considered each other’s families our family. Now we are truly family.”

They honeymooned in New Mexico and have returned to Colorado to be close to Maddie, her mom who is receiving chemotherapy for lymphoma.

Maddie stated that she feels like they were meant to be together. “There was so much that attracted us together, it made me feel lucky.
