Six people were shot to death by an unknown gunman on Monday at the Highland Park July Fourth parade. This suburb is affluent. Witnesses described their horror.
According to reports, the shooter is still at large. He opened fire on the rooftop of an outdoor outfitting shop. This was said to have enraged people who initially confused gunshots and Independence Day fireworks.
Robert Crimo III (22 years old) has been identified as suspect. He’s from Highland Park.
Crimo may be driving an ‘2010 silver Honda Fit, with Illinois plates reading: dm80653.
A suspect in the case is Awake, a rapper.
His description says he’s between 18- and 20 years old. He’s white with a light build. Long black hair is his trademark. A blue or white T-shirt was worn by him.
The police stated earlier that they are trying to track the gun they have found to their owner, in hopes it will help them find him.

It started less than fifteen minutes after the parade began. Witnesses now report that they witnessed children being taken from the crowd.
Sixteen people, five of them adults, have been killed in the attack on the parade. Sixteen people died at the hospital. It is unknown their age.

Brigham Temple is the Northshore medical director of emergency preparation. They have received 20 patients from eight to 85 years of age – 10 were transported by ambulance.
He said that four of the five children were among those who arrived at Northshore. Northshore received one child who was too seriously ill to transport initially. After stabilization, he was airlifted into a Chicago children’s hospital.
Temple stated that some patients were in serious condition.
Out of the 25 patients with gunshot wounds who came to the hospital, only 19 were discharged.
One of the patients had to be taken to Evanston Hospital. Northshore is still treating two patients.
He said, “It’s a bit surreal to care for an event like this.”
“But all of our employees have received extensive training.”
According to him, there were counselors and therapists on standby. The parade shooting left his hospital as one of the three that took in patients.
Township High School District 112 released the following statement: All Highland Park High School students are safe.

‘A rifle? No, no. That was an automatic weapon. Pop, pop and pop. Rifles don’t have that capability, she stated.
Biden, President of the United States, issued Monday’s statement. He has called for gun reform ever since Uvalde on May 24th which killed 19 people.
He stated that he supported the Governor of Illinois, the Highland Park Mayor and celebrated the recent passage of a gun-control bill.

Zoe, who was present when a young girl was shot in the head by a gunman, stated that this event was only for animals and children, who just happened to be passing the scene of the shooting.
“One man was hit in the head. His ear was broken. The bleeding was all over his body. Another girl was also shot in her leg and was escorted away. For quite some time, we hid in the basement.
‘I mean, someone, 20 feet away, you know, someone — and then we went back to get our cars and we saw the streets were quite littered.
“It was like a battlefield and it was disgusting.
‘It was — you know, everyone obviously remembers the Boston marathon massacre, like a happy marathon, and it’s just a happy day. It’s Fourth of July.
“It was the kids parade and dog parade. Children riding their bikes with their pets.
She said, “That was who just passed by.”
Witnesses reported a scene described as’sickening’ and that it was feared children were among the dead.
“I saw numerous lifeless bodies, people drowning in blood. A father who survived the attack with his children threw his son into a dumpster.
Miles Zaremsky is a 74year-old Highland Park lawyer. He told DailyMail.com that she witnessed the bloodshed. I was able to go for twenty minutes outside because it was pleasant weather.

A local hospital is taking care of a child who was left behind by his parents during the parade. He seems healthy and unharmed. He was picked up by a local chef as others fled for their lives. He brought him to the hospital, where his grandparents later collected him.
‘I heard multiple shots and I thought it was firecracker… but I heard multiple shots, 30-35 pops if I had to guess.
“The crowd stampeded. It was something I hadn’t seen before. It was bloody on the bodies of people.
I was able to see that two or three persons were deceased.[around 25 to 40 years of age]. It was disgusting, gut-wrenching, and it made me sick.
It was sickening. This can happen anywhere. 12-24 injuries were reported. There were a few dead bodies lying on the ground.
“I saw a little boy.” [covered in blood]His parents held him in their arms, and he looked at them. [pale]. They called for medical attention.
It is surreal.
“My wife and me have lived in Highland Park since 1966. This is a peaceful and beautiful community that respects the law.
“If it’s possible here, it’s possible in every community of the United States.”
Highland Park, a suburb of Chicago with over 30,000 residents is a wealthy and affluent city. Highland Park is home to a large number of families. There is also a substantial Jewish community in the vicinity. But, it is not believed that the attackers were anti-Semitic.
A Hasidic Jewish group was one of the participants in the parade. They were seen slowly moving down the parade route with a float, while others ahead ran the other way.
Rainan Eli (a nineteen-year old real estate student), witnessed the events unfold through his window at Central Avenue and Second Street.
“I was studying for an upcoming class, and I watched the parade. “I saw lots of people run and everybody thought it was fireworks for the Fourth,” he said to DailyMail.com.
Eli took out his cell phone, and recorded heart-breaking footage of people fleeing for safety while the gunshots were heard behind him.
Two other apartment residents came down with him, he said. They gave drinks to the 15-20 people in the vestibule.
Debbie Glickman is a Highland Park resident. She said that she was riding a parade float along with her coworkers. The group was ready to go onto the main route once she noticed people fleeing from the area.

“So, we ran. It was all just running. It seems like all of it is in chaos. She said, “I’m so scared.”
“We’re shocked at what happened in our tiny town.”
Matt Phillip, 36-year-old, is the director of Lynfred Winery’s tasting room. He said: “We opened early to watch the parade, and when we heard the sound like fireworks, people began running down the street.”
“We have opened our doors for them so that they can either find shelter inside our facility or leave through our back-alley entrance.”
Highland Park, Chicago’s most wealthy suburb, is well-known. Michael Jordan has a home in Highland Park. It is also the location of Home Alone.
It’s located in a group of suburbs on the North Shore near Lake Michigan.
The town’s mayor, Nancy Rotering, spoke briefly at a press conference along with law enforcement on Monday to share her condolences with the families of those killed.
Lori Lightfoot, Chicago mayor, tweeted that the tragedy in Highland Park was devastating.
“I am in touch with Mayor Rotering. I have offered my support. The Chicago Police Department has provided assistance.
‘We grieve with the families of the deceased and injured as well as the entire Highland Park community.
“Law enforcement works hard to take the shooter into custody.
“If you have any information we recommend that they call 911 to report it.
Highland Park’s violent crimes are almost non-existent, unlike Chicago, where there is a high rate of gun violence.
Highland Park had a median home value of $714,000 at April 2022. It also has around 30,000 residents.
