Saturday’s smash was about two miles from Gwrych Castle, where the hit ITV show has been filmed over the pandemic while Australia has been shut off.

Police said the three people arrested will be interviewed later today and confirmed the senior coroner for North East Wales has been alerted.

Sergeant Raymond Williams of the Roads Policing Unit said: ‘I offer my profound condolences to the family of the pedestrian at this difficult time.

‘We are currently investigating this incident as a fatal road traffic collision and ask that any witnesses who have not already come forward to contact the police with any information or dash cam footage.

‘I am particularly keen to receive any dash-cam footage from vehicles that may have seen a black BMW travelling from Rhyl towards Pensarn between 9.30pm and 9.40pm last night (Saturday 20th November).

‘I would like to thank road users for their patience and understanding whilst the road was closed to allow our officers and a Forensic Collision Investigator to secure evidence from the scene.’

An inquest into Mrs Hughes’ death revealed that she suffered “catastrophic injuries” last month.

For the ITV’s November 21 broadcast, the actress drove the ten-mile distance from her home to Gwrych Castle near Abergele in order to view the lights at the ITV set.

Elfyn Hughes was with Mrs Hughes when she pulled into a layby at A547 to take pictures. A blue Volvo crashed into the couple. At the spot, she died.

There was originally a limit of 60mph on A547, but that has been temporarily reduced to 20mph.

An inquest at Ruthin, North Wales heard a conclusion of death due to a road traffic collision was recorded.

Brian Rodgers (Home Office pathologist) said that Dr. Rodgers would have given up on her because of multiple traumatic injuries.
