Nicola Sturgeon promised to continue as First Minister for a full term tonight, warning her political enemies that she will not resign early.

Following recent speculation she may quit her post, SNP leader has vowed that she will lead the country to 2026.

If she is able to stay in her post for at least five years, she will have been in power 12 years longer than Margaret Thatcher’s and Tony Blair’s time as Prime Minister of the UK.  

Boris Johnson is trying to stop her push for independence in Scotland, but she has been an irritant.

In an interview with the BBC tonight she said: ‘It is almost as if my opponents have concluded they can’t beat me or remove me from office themselves, so they’re kind of crossing their fingers and hoping that I’ll remove myself from office.

“But they’re going to be so disappointed that I won’t be there as long.”

In May’s election, Ms Sturgeon’s SNP remained far and away the largest in Holyrood, but fell agonisingly short of an overall majority by a single seat, in a blow to her separatist ambitions. 

Ms. Sturgeon hoped to reach or surpass the 65-seat threshold to be able to repeat the 2014 vote that was against Boris Johnson’s wishes.

She was much more thoughtful in talking to the journalist about her plans for 2026. According to 51-year old, she wants to remain’relatively young’ when it comes to considering other options. 

In an October interview with Vogue she  revealed that she and her husband might foster children in the future when she leaves politics.

Peter Murrell (56) is the chief executive of SNP. She has no children with her. While they do spend some time at Bute House, she and Peter Murrell live mostly at their Glasgow home. They were together for seven years before getting married in 2010.
