Jeremy Hunt announced that he had beaten cancer.
Tory MP David Cameron, chairman of the Commons’ health committee, stated that although he did have a minor case of the disease it was’resolved.
He is well enough now to participate in the charity race next month.
The 55-year old added that cancer has affected every member of her family. “It’s affected my family extremely, and it will touch many other families,” she said.
“My involvement on the health select panel has demonstrated me how many ways we can improve cancer survival rates.
“They’re improving but we need to do more to help raise awareness and money. The more people we save, the better.
The MP for South West Surrey Mr Hunt did not give details about the type of cancer that he and his family have been diagnosed.
His brother Charlie, founder of bedding business Soak&Sleep, last year used Twitter to raise awareness of sarcoma – a rare form of cancer that often affects limbs.

With fellow Tory MP Angela Richardson and Rod Pluthero who survived cancer, Mr Hunt will lead Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.
The campaign is also being supported by the Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford.
Miss Richardson (47), who is the representative of the town said that there will be few people who are unaffected by cancer.
As one-in-two people are now suffering from the disease, researchers must focus their efforts on finding effective ways to prevent it.
Jeremy was a tireless advocate and champion for advanced cancer treatments, research and improved patient experiences over the years.
“It was a pleasure to meet him at Race for Life. We will be working together to achieve the best outcome for patients with cancer in the future.
In 2016, Mr Pluthero from Haslemere (Surrey) received successful treatment for his tongue cancer.
In 2020, the 73-year old was diagnosed with squamous cells carcinoma of his right lower jaw. He underwent a ten hour operation. His lower leg bone was used by surgeons to rebuild part of his jaw.

Following Boris Johnson’s confidence vote earlier in the month, Mr Hunt rode a bicycle from his London home to ride a bike.
He explained that Race for Life allows people to fund research for life-saving treatments, less severe treatment, and methods of educating people about their lifestyle choices.
“They are helping loved ones to stay together longer and see people reaching milestone birthdays. They are also helping bring forward the day that all 200 kinds of cancer will be cured. Cancer Research UK estimates that half of all people born in the UK after 1960 will develop cancer during their lives.
Race for Life in Partnership with Tesco is a national series of 5km, 3km and 10km races for runners, walkers, and cyclists of all abilities.
These races, along with other events for children, raise millions of dollars every year.
Lynn Daly from Cancer Research UK, South East spokeswoman, stated that Race for Life Guildford would be an emotional, vibrant, inspiring, and memorable event for this year.
Mrs Hunt’s mother was Lady Meriel Hunt who served as a naval nurse before succumbing to cancer. She died January 84.
