Emily Nuttall (21), from Lancashire, was 20st 5lbs in April. This is due to her eating multiple sweets bags per day combined with sugary beverages and pastries that amounted more than 7,000 calories.
After being teased for being the ‘fat friend’ throughout school, Emily’s confidence was at an all time low before starting her degree in childhood & youth studies with criminology.
Emily was 28 years old and a size 28 in dress. Emily decided it was time to stop worrying about her weight.

She stated that growing up, she was often made fun of for being fat.

“It would be common to go through a bunch of celebrations in one sit which I barely recognise in my own eyes anymore, as I’m a couch slob.”
After opening an April sharing bag of Haribo Star Mix, she had the revelation that it was possible to effect positive changes.

Emily said: ‘ I was sat on the sofa enjoying a film and was about to eat this sharing bag of sweets like I usually would, and something inside me just said that I cannot continue to do this.
“From that day on, I resolved to transform my life into the person I was meant to be.
Emily was first diagnosed with Idiopathic intracranial Hypertension in 2016 before she embarked on her weight-loss journey.
The condition often meant that Emily was bed bound whilst recovering from surgery, and had major setbacks in her college education and also left her dream of going to university in the balance.
“It took three brain surgeries, and I was left with a ventriculoperitoneal (VPS) shunt that helps me manage my condition.
“I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2018, and I am suffering from debilitating pain.
“I was forced to miss school for vital reasons and started eating more in order to compensate.
Emily expressed her desire to help others and show how she transformed her life, as well as the challenges she faced in health.

“Food was a source of comfort during difficult times and it became my stress relief. It also had a significant impact on my health.
All areas of her life were affected by her weight gain and health problems.
Emily shared her thoughts: “I felt very alone from my friends. It was like I couldn’t be with anyone. I was angry, sad, and I experienced terrible mood swings.
‘My journey did not just help with my weight but has also changed me into a completely different person from how I was when I was at my heaviest.
“Mentally, I’ve never been to a better place.”

Emily, who was first diagnosed with Idiopathic intracranial Hypertension in 2016 and began her journey to weight loss, turned to food as comfort. She spent many hours bedbound and was unable to attend school for long periods.
Emily reached out to her consultant at The 1:1 Diet in April last year and has not looked back.
She stated, “I was aware that I had the opportunity to prioritize my health and myself. It needed to come out of my own realization.”
“In the past year, my plan has helped me lose 8 stone and have seen a complete transformation in my life.
I can confidently say that I’m more outgoing, adventure-seeking, and fun to be around. My confidence is high in every aspect of my life and I don’t feel out of place.
Emily’s before-and-after diet has dramatically changed to accommodate her new lifestyle.
Emily confessed that before losing weight, she felt aggressive, emotionally, and isolated. She feels more outgoing, adventuresome, and excited now that she no longer worries about not fitting in.
She said, “Before I started, I was eating full English breakfasts most days, followed by lots of sweets in the morning, which would often leave me with so much sugar I couldn’t have a regular lunch. At dinner, I was eating loads bread and creamy pastas.
“Nowadays I weigh my breakfast and consume 100g of yoghurt and 150g of frozen fruit.
“For lunch, I have usually porridge or cereal for breakfast. Then comes a meal of chicken or chicken breasts with salad or root veggies.
Emily makes sure she has a full litre to drink with each meal.

She stated, “It’s really important that you drink throughout your day. I make sure I get at least 3 litres per day, divided between every meal.
“My body doesn’t retain water well due to my condition. This is why this is important for me.”
Emily had a lot of support from her friends and family as she lost weight.
“Everyone around me was so kind and supportive which is really helpful when trying to stay on the right track.”
“I have also been documenting my weight loss on social media. Every day I get messages of support, which has really helped me to continue my journey.
‘I have built amazing friendships with other people who are struggling with weight loss and find that more and more people found my story inspiring, so I wanted to share my journey and how I have transformed my life and overcome the struggles I have had.’
Emily feels that any person who is trying to shed pounds like she should make sure they do so for their own good and not others.
She stated that losing weight was a major change in her personality, my mental health and overall feeling of well-being.
“Anyone can do this, but it’s important to ensure you’re doing it safely and healthily, because you’re passionate about it and not just to please anyone.
