Lidl’s £11.99 Veuve Delattre Champagne Brut NV has beat bottles costing three times as much by a Which? Blind panel of experts.
As part of the annual Champagne Report for December, this consumer group evaluated bottles of French non-vintage Champagne (NV) from luxury Champagne houses and supermarkets.
Lidl has added the winning champagne to its everyday-value core wines. It was awarded for its ‘Great value’, proving that consumers can still enjoy luxury Christmas tastes without spending a fortune.
The results of the expert, blind taste-test scored Lidl’s £11.99 Veuve Delattre Champagne Brut NV at 77%, beating some of the top Champagne houses.

Lidl’s Veuve Delactre Champagne Brut Nv received a better rating than Champagne bottles.
It was was the cheapest bottle the experts tested, at around £26 less than the price of those by the more renowned brands.
The Lidl champagne scored higher than £35 a bottle Piper-Heidsieck Brut and £36-a-bottle Taittinger Brut Reserve N/V.

It also topped Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial, which retails at £38.
Richard Bampfield is Lidl’s Master of Wine. He commented that the results of blind tasting are an endorsement of what really is a high-value bottle of Champagne.
