MAIL ON SUNNDAY COMMENT

There is bad news for Boris Johnson in The Mail on Sunday’s Deltapoll, especially in the ‘Red Wall’ seats which the Tories captured from Labour under his leadership such a short time ago. Things would be very bad for the Conservative Party if there was a General Election tomorrow.

There won’t be an Election tomorrow. Voters have known for many years that by-elections and polls give voters a chance to vent and express their discontent to the people in power. It isn’t over yet.

It is very hard to believe that voters are as keen on Labour’s underwhelming, underperforming and unconvincing leader Sir Keir Starmer as they say they are now.

Although there have been some lasting damage caused by Premier’s foolish behavior at Christmas 2020 parties, this isn’t enough to make it so that large numbers will switch to Labour. What do you think Labour would do in similar circumstances?

It is all that’s needed by many voters for Mr Johnson to show his direction again before they can vote in the next Election.

However, he can’t expect this to happen automatically. He needs to show that he really means it when he talks of ‘levelling up’. Any sleaze must be stopped. He has to make sure that Brexit goes smoothly.

He should get away from Green-oriented concerns and take action to save the British from an ever growing energy crisis. It is impossible to fatten a pork on the market day. He must reestablish trust with his electorate if he wants to do so.

We can lead a normal, happy life by taking sensible actions

In the next term, the Government will take drastic action to make sure schools are back in full swing. It is right that classrooms be filled again. A complete return to normality requires schools. The young are already suffering enough because of missed classes, cancelled exams and other inconveniences.

If the positive news regarding Covid continues, the mainstone for a larger effort should be to reopen all schools. Because of this vaccine, the risk from contracting the disease is greatly reduced and doctors can now treat it more effectively. It is essential to examine any strict provisions that were made to stop the spread of this disease, and to determine if these are too restrictive.

The full reopening of schools should be the keystone of a more general effort to get the whole nation back to normal, assuming the good news about Covid continues (file photo)

A full reopening should constitute the core of an overall effort to bring the nation back to its normal state, provided that Covid’s good news does not stop (file photograph).

Another provision that is required to be isolated for at least seven days after positive testing results are the requirements of Omicron variant. Do you think this is necessary given all the evidence that Omicron variant patients will often only suffer mild illnesses? Many NHS workers are being forced by rules to not work.

This must also be true for many services and industries as well, such as the Civil Service or public transport. It is urgent that the NHS be given more flexibility to withstand the increasing pressures (not just from Covid), and allow for a greater return to work.

People are still worried about the pandemic and must do all they can to protect themselves and others. However, many are starting to realize that the best way to cope with the virus is to be sensible, patient, and persistent.
