Malcolm X’s daughter, Tracy was discovered dead in her Brooklyn apartment on Monday night.

Officers discovered Malikah Shabazz dead when they reached her house.

Her death was not ruled suspicious by the New York City medical examiner.  

Malikah, who was 56, and one of six children, was found by her daughter, Bettih-Bahiyah Shabazz, 23, in the home they shared.

Seven months after his assassination, she was still a baby and didn’t get to meet her father. 

Malcolm X, 39 years old, was shot sixteen times in front of 400 people. This included his wife, pregnant, and their three daughters. He was shot at close range by one of his killers using a shotgun.

She has had many brushes over the years with the law.  

In 2017, she along with her daughter were charged with stealing a rental truck in which were seven pit bulls. The pair were arrested in southern Maryland, 

Shabazz, a North Carolina resident who had been convicted of stealing an older family member’s identity in 2011 was a guilty plea. In credit card debts, she racked up over $55,000.

‘I’m deeply saddened by the death of #MalikahShabazz. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Dr. Betty Shabazz, Malcolm X and Malikah Shabazz. Dr. Shabazz was a mother to Malikah and Malaak when Brother Malcolm died. Be at peace, Malikah.,’ King wrote.

Shabazz’s murder comes days after the exoneration of two men suspected in her father’s shooting death.

Over the years, Malikah Shabazz had a number of brushes with the law. She is pictured in 2011, after pleading guilty to stealing the identity of an elderly family friend in North Carolina. She ran up more than $55,000 in credit card charges

Malikah Shabazz was a frequent victim of the law throughout her life. In 2011, she pleaded guilty to taking the identity of a North Carolina family friend. In credit card debts of more than $55,000, she was able to recoup the money.

Manhattan Judge Ellen Biben retried the cases against Muhammad Aziz & Khalil Islamic. This was after prosecutors and lawyers claimed that a renewed investigation revealed new evidence that they weren’t involved in the killing. It also determined that some evidence had been withheld by authorities. 

Following years of uncertainty about who caused the death of civil rights icons, they were officially exonerated. 

Cy Vance (the Manhattan District Attorney) initiated the investigation after a 6-part Netflix documentary that rekindled interest in the case.

Vance’s decision to have the conviction thrown out is most likely one of his highest-profile last acts as DA. He announced that in March he will be retiring at the end this year and would not run for re-election 12 years after 12 years of service. 

Vance (66) apologized in court to Aziz on Thursday and shook hands with him.

Khalil Islam (pictured second from right), the second of the two men convicted in the 1965 killing, died in 2009 after being paroled more than 20 years prior, in 1987. He is set to be cleared for the crime posthumously

Malcolm X became a national icon as the Nation of Islam’s Voice. He exhorted blacks to exercise their civil rights by all means possible’. 

Alex Haley wrote his autobiography. It is still a great work of American literature. Denzel Washington was the star in a Spike Lee movie about him. Washington won an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Malcolm X.

Malcolm X was close to the end of Malcolm X’s life. After a trip in Mecca, he began talking about the possibility of racial harmony. 

He was viewed as a traitor by some members of the Nation of Islam.

Malcolm was beginning his speech when he was gunned down. He was 39.
