Man United’s Covid outbreak caused the Carrington Training Ground to be closed for first-team operations. Red Devils were ‘in discussions with the Premier League’ about whether the Brentford clash can proceed.

Manchester United had to close their Carrington training grounds for the first team and cancel Monday training because of the Covid-19 epidemic.

A variety of personnel and players were positive for lateral flow on Sunday.

According to reports, the Premier League is in discussions with Red Devils about Tuesday’s Premier League match with Brentford.

A United statement read: ‘Manchester United can confirm that following PCR test confirmation of yesterday’s (Sunday’s) positive LFT Covid-19 cases among the first team staff and players, the decision has been taken to close down first team operations at the Carrington Training Complex for 24 hours, to minimise risk of any further infection.

According to Premier League protocol, “Individuals with positive results are isolated.” The priority is given to players’ and staff health, as well as cancellation of training.

‘The Club is in discussion with the Premier League whether it is safe for Tuesday’s fixture against Brentford to continue, both from a covid infection and player preparation perspective. The outcome of the discussion will determine whether staff and team travel to London can be postponed.

According to reports, all of the group who traveled to Norwich Saturday night for their 1-0 win have been negative.

There were a few positive lateral flow test results among staff and players. These individuals were then sent home just before Sunday’s training began.  

Victor Lindelof went off against Norwich with breathing problems, though there has been no confirmation that this was Covid-related

Some players also trained outdoors, with training that was both individual and non-contact.  

Although Victor Lindelof was attacked by Norwich on the same day, news of the outbreak broke. There has not been any confirmation that Covid is to blame. 

Midway through their match against Norwich, Defender Lindelof walked off. He pointed at his chest and complained that he couldn’t breathe.

Lindelof appeared in discomfort, and was eventually taken to the dressing rooms for tests.

United’s Covid outbreak comes after Tottenham recently had to postpone their UEFA Conference League match against Rennes, last week; and Premier League visit to Brighton.

Red Devils had already seen a few cases this season. Dean Henderson was positive for Covid at the start of the campaign. He continued to struggle with long-term Covid.

Mason Greenwood was forced to perform the same task last month as Jesse Lingard, who had to isolate his body during preseason.  

Omicron could be seen in sporting events as more cases are filed across the nation.

There were no fans permitted in the stadiums during the last two months of 2019-20 season as well as the entirety of 2018-19 season.

New Covid-19 regulations by the government will have major implications for football fans across the country. To be allowed to participate in sporting events that draw more than 10,000 spectators, you must show proof of either double vaccination or negative lateral flow testing.
