Met Police officers admitted to taking photos of murdered sisters and shared them with others. They said that they felt compelled to do so because “Unfortunately” was the only thing they could think to say.

PC Jamie Lewis, 33, made the appalling WhatsApp comment as he and PC Deniz Jaffer, 47, were meant to be keeping the cordon protecting Nicole Smallman and Bibaa Henry’s bodies secure.

Jaffer also took to the social media messaging app to declare ‘I’m here now I’ll try to take pictures of the dead birds’, a police misconduct panel heard.

The women were previously photographed by both of them. They will be sentenced in December 6.

They were today brought before the Metropolitan Empress Building, west London to face allegations of police misconduct.

BBC reported that the panel was chaired and led by Helen Ball, Assistant Commissioner.

After the hearing, it was revealed that the two officers who were instructed to guard the cordon left and photographed the corpses of the sisters fatally injured.

PC Jaffer was supposed to help Lewis protect the scene when the two sisters were found fatally stabbed in Fryent Country Park, Wembley.

Above are the sisters who were celebrating Ms Henry’s birthday with their friends. Ms Smallman found them that day.

They instead broke the cordon to take inappropriate and unauthorised photos of bodies. The photographs were then sent to a doctor and dentist, as well as a WhatsApp Group.

Jaffer took four photos and Lewis two. One was sent to Lewis by a female colleague, with Lewis’s face added onto it.

The IOPC, a police watchdog, later discovered that Lewis used sexist and degrading language to describe victims within the WhatsApp group consisting of 42 coworkers.

An earlier in the month, Dame Cressida Dick apologized for the incident.

Mina Henry, the mother of Ms Smallman and Ms Henry, was furious at the Met Commissioner’s botched investigation into their daughters’ deaths.

She criticized her for “Her poor behavior and her reply since this all has been out” adding, “She hasn’t contacted us to tell me I’m really sorry.” She did not comment on this.

Ms. Smallman stated that the Met is ‘beyond belief’ and added: “You travel to London to begin to plan the funeral for your deceased children. You are informed that officers who should have been guarding the area took selfies and then sent them to a dentist, a doctor, and a WhatsApp group.

The Met stated that it had taken ‘immediate measures’ to place former PC Jaffer (who has since resigned) and PC Lewis in the Met’s custody before the accelerated misconduct hearings.

Dick was the Met Commissioner. He said that he deeply regretted the fact that, at a time they were still grieving the loss their loved ones, who had been taken in such horrible circumstances and were suffering from additional distress because of the actions two police officers.

“The actions of former PC Jaffer, PC Lewis on that particular day were completely disrespectful, unprofessional and highly insensitive. That is my understanding from Met colleagues who absolutely condemn such behavior.

“They have pleaded guilty to a serious crime and will be sentenced accordingly.

Bibaa, Nicole and their families received my apology in June 2013 and I am apologizing again today.

‘Now that the judicial process has got to this stage, we are able to take the officers through an accelerated misconduct process.’

Jaffer (47), from Hornchurch in east London and Lewis (33) from Colchester, Essex were arrested during a criminal investigation conducted by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Each of them was charged with entering a crime scene that he wasn’t authorized to, communicating information via WhatsApp about his presence at the scene and taking photos of it.

Mina Smallman (the mother of the sisters) sat at the courthouse for the hearing, and she has called the officers ‘despicable.

Paul Goddard of the CPS said in court: “Pc Jamie Lewis, and Pc Deniz Jacob’s senseless behaviour fell well below what can be expected from officers.

“These officers had the responsibility of protecting a crime scene.

They violated the law for their own gain, disregarding the dignity and potential harm to an investigation into a crime.

“Their insensitive and thoughtless actions no doubt caused more distress and pain for the devastated family and friends Nicole Smallman, Bibaa Henry and their families who are already reeling after the tragic loss of their loved one. They are in our thoughts and prayers.

Following their June 22nd arrests, both were suspended from service as they belonged to the Met’s North East command group.

Jaffer from Hornchurch, east London, is on unconditional bail, as well Lewis, Colchester, Essex.
