Ruby, a friend and Ruby were crossing the street when Cairns’ speeding car struck her.
Jamie Baxter, Prosecutor said experts had determined that if Cairns had driven within the speed limits, it might not have been a collision.
The evidence was taken 8m after the collision and showed that the car involved had not braked.
CCTV footage showed that Cairns made no effort to slow down after the accident.
According to the court, Ruby was hit by Ruby’s car and drove off. He then walked towards his home, leaving his car behind.
Shortly after, he called police to report that he’d hit a young girl. He was then arrested.
