Just weeks after giving birth via an emergency C section, 22-year-old woman died from COVID-19 complications. — and she never got a chance to hold her baby girl.

Aimee ‘Jaqueline’ Ayala from El Paso, Texas was eight months pregnant when she tested positive for COVID-19 on November 7, and within days had to be hospitalized due to the virus.

Though she was able to safely give birth on November 13, Jaqueline’s condition continued to decline, and on November 30 she passed away.

Jaqueline had been in the hospital for several days suffering from COVID-19 complications when doctors performed a C-section on November 13 and she gave birth to her daughter, Addison Mariand Morales.

However, her condition meant that she couldn’t see her little girl beyond a quick glance shortly after she was born.

It was enough for her to write a Facebook message about the situation. She wrote that she felt ‘depressed and disillusioned’ at having been kept away from her first child.

Her condition deteriorated over time and she was eventually intubated on 28 November.

After a short look at the girl shortly after she was born, her condition meant that she could not see her.

Well enough to post on Facebook at the time, she wrote of her 'depression and despair' of being kept from her baby as a first time mother

Her health worsened, though, and on November 28 she was intubated

“She got worse over the weeks and finally she was in cardiac arrest,” Kimberly Ayala, her sister told KTSM. Kimberly Ayala her sister told KTSM that she could no longer breathe and her heart was stopped.

One time, she was unconscious for fifteen minutes. She was revived but was declared brain dead. Officially, she died November 30. 

It is unclear whether or not Jaqueline had been vaccinated against COVID-19.

“Knowing that she didn’t get to hold her was the hardest part. Kimberly said that she loved her so deeply she knows she did. She gave her whole life to her.

Kimberly wrote on a GoFundMe page that Kimberly was proud of her sister’s selflessness and said she would give her life for her baby. 

She leaves behind her daughter and her husband, Juan Pablo Morales Orozco, who has taken baby home

'She was such a beautiful person inside and out,' her sister wrote on a GoFundMe page

On a GoFundMe page, her sister said that she was a “beautiful person in and out.”

She wrote, “She was so beautiful inside and out,” in Spanish. Her sister also added that she fought to save the lives of the babies who were not at the abortion clinic.

“She could not hold her child in her arms but she showed us her love for her baby. “She gave all for the sake of her child’s life,” she added in Spanish.

Juan Pablo Morales Orozco Orozco was her husband and she has left behind their daughter.

‘I’ve been able to take her home, hold her and sleep with her. She has been a strength… she’s the one carrying me instead of me carrying her,’ he said.
