Only gouda! Extra mature Cheddar from WAITROSE is what pet hamster will eat. He won’t eat cheeses made in Iceland and Co-Op.

  • Hamster Toffee has a taste for Waitrose’s Essential Extra Mature British Cheddar
  • After refining their palates, the spoiled pet rejected Co-op and Iceland cheese
  • He also dines on broccoli and cereal – preferably from Waitrose too, of course

This spoiled hamster has acquired something of a refined palate – and will eat cheese only if it’s from Waitrose.

Toffee is a fan of more mature fromage, and he rejects Iceland and Co-op.

Owner Jo Le Page, 40, from Guernsey, said he also dines on broccoli and cereal – preferably from Waitrose too, of course.

Waitrose Essential Extra Mature British Cheesedar, Strength Six is all he will eat.

Le Page says that although he only enjoys Toffee cheese on very rare occasions, he is still picky.

A mother of two said that although hamsters don’t need to consume a lot, he can have a small amount every once in a while.

“But, after he tried some Waitrose cheeses, he decided to try Icelandic and Co-op cheeses.”

“It was funny – he knew that it wasn’t Waitrose, and he ran away.”

Le Page stated that he gave Le Page a slice of cheddar with a candle in it for his birthday. He ate the entire thing right away.

“People find it humorous when I tell people that he has a well-lived life and will probably live for a long time.”

Le Page added: 'For his birthday this year we gave him a chunk with a candle in - not lit of course - and he grabbed the cheese straight away and started to eat it'

Le Page said, “For his birthday this past year, we gave him a piece of cheese with a candle inside – but not lit – and he immediately grabbed it and began to eat it.”

Le Page is a preschool worker who bought Toffee in 2002. They have four guinea-pigs together and Grace and Isaac are five and nine years respectively.

She said that he lives an extravagant lifestyle, with a lot of sleep and the promise to eat Waitrose snacks every night.

He said, “When people hear about his extravagant tastes they find it humorous.” Le Page stated that even rodent-haters think Le Page is cute.

“Toffee’s tale always makes people smile.” Waitrose also supplies my Guinea Pigs Salad – it’s keeping the business afloat!

And although Le Page only gives Toffee cheese as a treat on rare occasions, she says he remains picky

Le Page says that he is picky, even though he only allows Toffee cheese to be enjoyed as a treat for very rare occasions.
