According to reports, Oxford University could make “woke scores” part of their criteria in recruiting academics.
A consultation document from the university’s race equality taskforce reportedly states the importance of embedding EDI – equality, diversity and inclusion – into ‘all recruitment’.
The Daily Telegraph reported that it recommended that applicants should have ‘good citizenship’ and/or a commitment to EDI, as the Daily Telegraph stated.
However, some academics object to this idea.

EDI should be considered as a factor in academic appointments. This is what a senior don stated to the newspaper.
‘If we are supposed to pay attention to their EDI – their woke score – does this mean it doesn’t matter if they are useless at teaching and research?’
Another way to increase inclusivity is to have a centrally-funded pool of trained EDI observer support recruit panels.
Oxford University spokesperson stressed that this document was created as a consultation and not an approved strategy.
The taskforce will review the responses of students and staff to create a strategy for the university that will hopefully be approved by Oxford’s governance body before the end the academic year.
