A passenger onboard a flight from Egypt to Russia allegedly killed himself in the plane’s toilet, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in Cairo.
Russian Alexander Dokshin was 48 years old when he was found unconscious in the lavatory just after S7 Airlines took off from Sharm el-Sheikh. He was on his way to Samara.
The plane crew had broken down the door to find Dokshin’s body, before the captain quickly put out a call for a doctor or medic on board to go immediately to the rear of the plane – causing ‘panic’ among passengers.

A medic attempted to revive the dad-of-one but the pilot made an emergency landing at Cairo, where further efforts to save him failed. He was declared dead.
A five-hour delay was caused by police being summoned to investigate the death.
Tatyana, who was a passenger on board the plane, stated that she was seated in the middle of it and was panicked by the announcements about a medical emergency.
“I saw people behind me in panic and turned to look.”
Egyptian paramedics confirmed his death, and the police quizzed all those aboard who tried to save him. Dokshin leaves behind Kristina, his 37-year-old wife, and their daughter.

S7 airlines, which is a Oneworld alliance partner with British Airways and Russia’s largest domestic carrier, has a spokeswoman. It said: “After finding the passenger unconscious the captain made an emergency landing at Cairo, the closest airport.
“Three members of medical personnel, including one resuscitator were on board the aircraft and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitations until it landed.
“The victim was taken to Cairo’s local medical staff, and unfortunately, his death occurred despite the best efforts of resuscitation.
Russia’s Transport Investigative Committee has opened an investigation into Dokshin’s death.
He was described by his family as an ordinary man who owns a garage and is a good-natured car mechanic.
