Here’s a hotel that might float your boat – one that will actually float.
A new rendering shows the Kempinski Floating Palace. This five-star resort is ‘positioned as one’ and features superyacht berths. When it opens in 2023, it will be anchored right next to Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach.
The uber-luxurious resort is not only floating, but also the 12 villas around it can detach and move at their own speed to another location.

This rendering depicts the Kempinski Floating Palace. A five-star resort, it is set to be open in 2023.
Described as ‘luxury houseboats’ by Swiss hotelier Kempinski, these villas will be connected to the central 156-room hotel by pontoons.
These boats have a flat hull and will include a cabin to accommodate crew members. They also have an internal engine. You can either hire your own skipper, or you may use the one supplied by the hotel to control the villa.
It will depend on the conditions whether or not villas are able to anchor farther afield. To sail, you need calm waters. They are not allowed to travel off-shore and should be anchored permanently elsewhere.
Villas are two-story structures that will have one to four bedrooms and a roof terrace.
They’ll also come equipped with ‘large panoramic windows and all the technical features of a smart home’.
The villas will be eco-friendly and have solar panels according to the statement. Every property will be for sale and rent, depending on your cash flow.

The conditions will determine whether villas can anchor further out – calm waters will allow them to sail.
The resort, which Seagate Shipyard will build, will allow guests to reach it by speedboat or by their yacht.
There’s a parking deck that will accommodate up to 16 boats, and larger yachts, according to a statement from Kempinski, will sail in and out of the main hotel through a central passageway.
If this isn’t fancy enough, a floating helipad will be connected to the resort, so guests can make their arrival by air.
Drawings of the hotel’s main structure show it will be split into four sections, which are joined at the center by a glass pyramid.
This building will house ‘every luxury of a five-star hotel, from exclusive gourmet restaurants, bars, spa and pools to boutiques and banquet areas’.
Each of these facilities are offered to guests who stay in villas.

You can arrive by yacht at the resort – there’ll be a car park that can hold up to 16 vehicles
Bernold Schroeder (CEO of Kempinski Group, Chairman of Management Board of Kempinski AG) said: “We are thrilled to be able offer our guests in Dubai such an experience starting from 2023. It combines the city’s reputation for being a high-tech destination with the timeless European elegance of Kempinski Hotels.
‘The highly innovative project by Seagate Shipyard convinces not only by its high-end technology but also through impeccable style and design.’
Mr Mohamed El Bahrawy, CEO and founder of Seagate Shipyard, adds: ‘It is thrilling to see, that for the first time a brand of the calibre of Kempinski will manage a floating hotel of such magnitude, and we are confident that our hotel will soon be one of the top tourist attractions in Dubai.’
The official opening date and prices for the resort are still to be determined.
