Prince Harry said today that the Covid-19 crisis was like HIV. In a YouTube video, Prince Harry claimed that political and corporate failures have led to both pandemics.
The Duke of Sussex told viewers today that there were ‘striking parallels between Covid-19 and another deadly pandemic, one that emerged 40 years ago – HIV’.
The 37-year-old made the comments in a video which featured a video of his late mother Princess Diana who was known for raising awareness surrounding HIV/AIDS.
Also, the clip featured Harry and Meghan Markle at Global Citizen Live in New York September. The event called for vaccine equity policies.
This video is part of People’s Vaccine Alliance. It was made on World Aids Day.
The alliance is backed by organisations including UNAIDS – the joint United Nations programme on HIV/AIDS – as well as Oxfam and Amnesty International.

Prince Harry stated in the video: “There are striking parallels zwischen Covid-19 und another deadly pandemic that emerged 40-years ago, HIV.
He added that this was a tale about political failure and corporate greed which has prolonged the pandemics. And what it is possible to do to prevent them from happening again.
According to the Duke, “In the early 2000s, there was a wave in activism that helped end drug company monopolies. This gave millions access to generic drugs at a fraction the cost.
He said, “By ending vaccine Monopolies and Sharing Technology, Companies in the developing World can Start Producing Covid Vaccines Too.”

Harry Byanyima (UNAIDS executive director) said: “Break all monopolies. Share the know-how. Deliver a vaccine to the people.”
Harry is also quoted in the video, speaking out in New York, September. He said: “Many of these vaccinations were public funded. They are your vaccines, you paid for them.”
Global Citizen Live was an event that encouraged leaders to develop a vaccine equity strategy. The Duke made the controversial statement about pandemics as a human rights crisis.
Harry, who was joined by Meghan at the event also stated that drug companies should give up their intellectual property rights to Covid vaccines.

In an earlier speech, he blamed Covid vaccine hesitancy entirely on overwhelming’massive misinformation’ and asked governments to correct vaccine inequalities.
Harry, who was giving praises to the Oxford/AstraZeneca team at the GQ Awards spoke out about a “huge gap” between those who are able and those who cannot get the vaccine.
In addition, the Duke stated that less than 2% of the population in developing countries had been given a vaccine and many health workers remain unvaccinated.
At Global Citizen VAX Live May 2012, he stated that “This pandemic won’t end unless collectively we act with an unprecedented commitment for our shared humanity.”
