During his speech, Harry said a photograph of his mother Princess Diana meeting Nelson Mandela remains ‘on his wall and his heart’.
He said that his mother’s ‘joy and playfulness’ can be seen in the photograph, taken in Cape Town in March 1997, just five months before her tragic death.
‘We’ve also come to know him through the photographs of a person who even when confronting unimaginable cruelty and injustice, almost always had a smile on his face,’ said Harry.
‘For me, there’s one photo in particular that stands out. On my wall, and in my heart everyday, is an image of my mother and Mandela meeting in Cape Town in 1997.
The Duke of Sussex, 37, who shares Archie, three, and Lilibet, one, with his American wife, also revealed how he ‘knew he had found a soulmate’ in Meghan Markle, 40, on a visit to Africa

‘The photo was presented to me by the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu who’s friendship and inspiration were their own treasured gift. My wife and I had the honour of introducing our four-month-year old son to him back in 2019.
‘But when I first looked at the photo, straight away what jumped out was the joy on my mother’s face, the playfulness, cheekiness even, the pure delight to be in communion with another soul so committed to serving humanity.’
Meanwhile, as Meghan proudly watched her husband while seated in the audience, Harry referred to her as his ‘soulmate’.
‘Since I first visited Africa at 13 years old, I’ve always found hope on the continent,’ he said.
‘In fact, for most of my life, it has been my lifeline, a place where I have found peace and healing time and time again.

The UN Nelson Mandela Prize 2020 was given to participants during the event. Mrs Marianna V. Vardinoyannis of Greece and Dr Morissanda Kouyaté of Guinea. The prize recognizes those who dedicate their lives in service to humanity and is awarded every five years.
Meghan spoke at a conference at UN headquarters organized by UN Women on International Women´s Day in 2015, before her marriage to the prince.
The couple, who were senior royal members, resigned in January 2020 and relocated to Southern California where the duchess lives with her two children.
Harry and Meghan went to South Africa together with Archie their son in 2019. This was their first family trip before their departure from royal duties.
Harry’s speech comes hours after it was revealed in a new bombshell book that his Eton pals called him ‘f***ing nuts’ for dating Meghan.
Tom Bower is a journalist who wrote ‘Revenge. Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors’. He claims that Harry invited Meghan to Sandringham in 2016 for his weekend shoot.
They had just revealed their relationship, but the prince invited 16 close friends to come along for the weekend.
They mostly included old school pals from Eton, employed by international banks and auction houses, who joined him for dinner, shooting and lunch with the Queen’s permission.
Bower claims the Duke of Sussex had been excited for a weekend of ‘endless banter’ with his pals, but Meghan, 40, was less than impressed and ‘challenged every guest’ who ‘contravened her woke values’.
According to Bower’s new book, Bower claims that Meghan had ‘no sense of humor’ and was a “dampener at the party”, according to The Times newspaper.
She also reportedly ‘reprimanded them for their jokes about sexism, feminism and transgender people’, with Bower writing that Harry had ‘not anticipated’ Meghan’s reaction.
He stated that she lacked a sense of humor. The texts pounded between them as they drove back from Sunday lunch. “OMG, how about HER?” said one. “Harry must be f***ing nuts”.’
Bower claimed that Meghan “reprimanded” guests if they made the “slightest insensitive comment”, and that no one was exempt.
This is after Meghan allegedly called her PR staff in hysterics following Buckingham Palace’s reaction to ‘her Vanity Fair interview on Prince Harry’.
Bower claims Meghan was ‘ecstatic’ when she was invited to cover Vanity Fair’s September 2017 magazine and give an interview.
Bower said that when Bower ran the title ‘Wild About Harry’ on its cover, focusing more on Meghan’s relationship and not her work as an actor or activist but rather on Meghan’s role in the British royal’s life, the Palace was surprised.
Bower claims that Meghan called her PR company within hours after the prepublication copy of the magazine was sent to Buckingham Palace. She then ‘hysterically’ told them about the Palace’s fury.
Bower reported that Meghan was upset that the article was not focused more on her philanthropy. However, Bower says that this is due to the fact that Vanity Fair researchers weren’t able to support two of her stories about activism as a child.
After first discussing Meghan’s speech at the United Nations and a letter she sent to Procter & Gamble as an 11-year-old requesting that they change a slogan promoting washing-up liquid that was deemed sexist, she was asked about Harry.
As reported by Vanity Fair in 2017, Meghan said: ‘We’re a couple. We’re in love.
‘I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time.
This is what we want. That’s what makes this place so exceptional. We are happy. A great love story is what I like.
